“...this could create a situation where each of the 50 states would be screening presidential candidates using different standards.”

So?

What is wrong with states’ rights anyway?

I was under the impression that the bill only required potential candidates to verify that they were constitutionally eligible to hold the office for which they were aspiring to. The constitution grants states that authority. This smells really bad. Sovereign nation my a**.

Sen. John McComish, R-Phoenix. And Sen. Adam Driggs, R-Phoenix, said this could create a situation where each of the 50 states would be screening presidential candidates using different standards.

And you're worried about what other states do, why?
Pack of cowards...

Virtually identical legislation was introduced in the House in the form of HB 2544. But that measure has never gotten a hearing....

Time to move this one in the AZ House.

“The Arizona Bill was defeated today with the help of three Republicans.”

I see primary challenges in their futures.

Frankly, I think this all comes down to the flak the state has taken over the illegal immigration vote they held last year.

They’ve allowed the LSM to turn them into weenies.

Just a thought and I know it was a state matter, but I can almost see John McCain’s hand in this screwed up vote.........Just saying.

""I think it's inappropriate for the state of Arizona to establish its own criteria for a federal office that goes beyond what the (U.S.) Constitution requires"

Someone this stupid should be removed.

Three Republicans voted with the two Democrats on the panel to kill the plan offered by Sen. Ron Gould, R-Lake Havasu City.

The numbers given are an amazing indictment of Repugnicans.

Just two Dems on the 8-member committee, and still the Repugnican-sponsored bill fails -- because three idiots who got themselves elected by virtue of having an "R" beside their names went along with the minority Democrats! And concocted the weakest possible excuse for killing the "natural-born citizenship" bill.

Next time I get one of those letters from the RNC or the RSCC begging for a donation to "help us put more Republicans in Congress," I think I'll send it back with a copy of this story as my reason for not contributing.

“”I think it’s inappropriate for the state of Arizona to establish its own criteria for a federal office that goes beyond what the (U.S.) Constitution requires,” said Sen. John McComish, R-Phoenix.”

Arizona has virtually had to cede its sovereignty over the lower 100 miles of the state. And this guy is OK with having an undocumented President?

It doesn't look like Barack Obama will need to get his original birth certificate to state officials to be on the presidential ballot in Arizona next year.

Ain't that a bitch. The candidate can be an illegal alien.

Here in Canada, you need to show a birth certificate to get a drivers license. No exceptions. It can be Kenyan but you have to show one.
