(CNN) - Keith Olbermann will be hosting a primetime show on Current TV – the network backed in part by Al Gore, the former MSNBC host announced Tuesday.

Olbermann abruptly departed MSNBC two weeks ago. He will begin his show "later in 2011," according to a statement from Current TV.

Full statement:

NEW YORK – February 8, 2011 – Keith Olbermann, the acclaimed broadcaster and writer whose verbal pyrotechnics and moral passion have outraged, informed, and dazzled viewers of "Countdown With Keith Olbermann" for the past eight years, is bringing his slashing wit, analytical eye, and distinctive commentary to Current Media, the Emmy® and Peabody Award-winning TV and digital media company that was founded in 2005 by Al Gore and Joel Hyatt and is now distributed in more than 75 million households around the world.

‘... is now distributed in more than 75 million households around the world.’

But does anyway actually watch it? Well, at least the number of viewers couldn’t be much worse than his previous gig.

Another reason not to watch Current TV. I didn’t think it was possible to make that network suck anymore but adding KO will certainly add to the suckiness.

“I’ve done a lot of research. It was difficult finding a channel with fewer viewers than MSNBC but I tracked one down.

My fans will be able to watch me in between terminally boring clips of people’s composting videos and their trips to Nantucket.”

I am waiting for Olberman to come out and say that he was restrained on MSNBC and that he will be totally unleashed on Current.

Watching the train wreck could be entertaining, but dangerous to your mental health.

My kids still can’t figure out why half the stations on our satellite are blocked, looks like I have to add another if I missed it so far.

Normally they complain because its things like MTV or VH1, but now that they are getting older they can’t figure out why other stations like FSTV are blocked. I just explain to them again for about the seven hundredth time that it’s my TV, my satellite bill, my password and my rules.

I’m a big Meany, I know...

Slashing wit? How about boring nitwit? Dazzled?? Huh? Were his MSMBC viewers hypersensitive to bright light, but were OK with a dim bulb?

Outraged? Really?? I think a viewer would have to take his drivel seriously to become outraged, and the 3 people who watched his show last week read comic books and snickered all the way through. But at least his ratings were consistent, the same Berkeley freshman who said he watched twice last November claims that he also watched twice in December.

No wonder the Current TV folks took Olbermann on board, they've been sharing a split personality viewer with a local-access cable channel so long they were anxious to get anybody who doesn't wear clown face paint and knee pants with polka dot suspenders. And now they're going all-out to attract at least one viewer with an attention span longer than a hyperactive 3-year old. So go for it KO, you da man!!

Yes, it's becoming the dried-up, leftist hack graveyard.

Gore bought himself a double-wide coffin.
