You are fortunate having a spread as that..and yes pray survival mode would not be necessary. My husbands family had property as that and my father-in-law use to store food and water just in case. The house they restored was over a hundred years as well....they have the history on it and a state landmark.

Another reason for this apartment...location is great...Fine area, good neighbors and it sits off the beaten path and would not be noticed if you didn’t know it was there because of how it is joined to the building. The area is developed rural. Lots of property to each home there... and again off the beaten path. Just three miles from all the shopping I would need..so if i ever had to walk that would be possible.

My only concern is it is ground floor....where second floor has always made me feel more secure.

I read about those greenhouses....but I would never be handy enough to put one together. This will be my first garden so we shall see.

Normally I probably wouldn’t consider it. But given how things are going I look at life quite differently now and just give more thought to things I wouldn’t have prior.

The Green House Gas phenomenon exists on the planet in basic form. It is best described however as a Green Planet Gas phenomenon. Without the green house gases themselves, for example CO2, the color green would not occur on land in biological form. No carbon source for the photosynthesis of carbon sugar compounds.

The major heat retaining component of the Green Planet Gases is water vapor. You also need rain to support green plant life. In gaseous (vapor) and liquid (moisture) form it has a high density for heat. You can see that by comparing how quickly the atmosphere cools off at night when you are overcast verses when you have clear night skies. An overcast sky contains a high density of moisture (liquid water), which can hold a higher density of heat.

An El Nino event is really a large scale Green Planet Phenomenon due to the large increase of atmospheric water vapor generated by equatorial heat evaporation (heated El Nino waters). The truth is El Nino is the dominant Green House Gas emitting event on the planet. Much greater then human influence. That is the truth the watermelons hope to hide from you.

You might want to joint us on The Weekly Gardening Thread. Not much going on this time of year, but as Spring comes around, the information will be abundant. There are gardeners of every kind, with everything from one plant in a container to large garden plots for profit, in all parts of the country.

Red Devil_232 posts the threads and maintains the ping list, if you'd like to be added. Look forward to seeing you there!

Well I’m glad that somebody can get rich while people have to go with dehydrated chemical substitutes to provide for their family...

My entire digestive system pretty much recoils at the idea that wheat is good for you...

Proof that it is:

Weizenbier

What's your recipe for German potato soup? If your family has been in TX since it was a republic, did they travel there from the GERMANA colony in colonial Virginia?

Bier is filled to the brim with deadly wheat gluten (and barley gluten).

There are imitation beers made from rice and corn. They are much better, but generally unavailable in beer joints.

You'll need to install a fence (if you don't have one).

Those are the black chickens with white spots.

When the neighbor decided to steal my old hens my half dozen rocks didn't make a squawk. The banties flew up on the roof.

Sure, those eggs are smaller, but if you keep a small flock it'll last longer ~ plus, they just love wild seeds and bugs. Gives their eggs a really first class flavor highly prized by the top carnivore.!

Toasted tomato sandwiches are yummy. But I found out that fresh from the garden taste much better than what you buy at the store..just sprinkle a little salt on the tomatoes..
