Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher Sell Sex With “No Strings Attached”
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | January 20, 2011 | Walter Hudson

Posted on 01/21/2011 4:44:43 PM PST by Walter Scott Hudson

I think holding the door for the girl that you are having casual sex with is very romantic.
It should shock no one to hear such irreverent "wisdom" escape the lips of Ashton Kutcher. The comment is from a recent promotional interview for his forthcoming romantic comedy No Strings Attached. In it, he stars opposite Natalie Portman as life-long platonic friends who drop the platonic without adding love or commitment.
The calling card of “No Strings” is its cavalier attitude toward casual sex, and how members of the opposite sex have precious few boundaries talking about or engaging in the practice of making love. This isn’t “The Philadelphia Story,” where subtle references to sex were lightly bandied about by the likes of Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn. Instead, screenwriter Elizabeth Meriweather talks frankly about physicality in the 21st century.
The times have changed, you see. As Portman tells Entertainment Weekly, it's high time Hollywood's depictions of romance change as well.

"I’ve always wanted to do [a romantic comedy]," says the newly pregnant star... But the girls are always in fashion, and it’s always about their clothes. They always want to get married at the end. There’s some kind of makeover scene. That stuff offends me(...)"

...says Portman’s producing partner, Annette Savitch. “We want to do movies that are female driven, from a fresher perspective. So if it’s a comedy, it’s not just about women out to find husbands. I think that’s really lacking today.”

Right about here is where you might expect a moralizing diatribe about the ongoing collapse of Western civilization. This is a conservative blog after all. However, let us consider a slightly more nuanced response.

Female driven?

Telling young women to go out and sleep around is “female driven?”

Gimme a break.

It maybe art imitating life, but I personally do not find it romantic. I saw love and other drugs not long ago. It had a similar attitude about sex. Probably the worst movie I have seen in several years. I would expect this to be on par so I will pass.

How has America sunk so far down the drain?

Its the liberals with their 'nothings sacred' outlook. And yes, many conservatives are at fault here too. Many either happily slurp up the morally offensive slop, or say 'theres more important things to deal with'.

America's moral fabric is threadbare.

Nothing new here. I used to hear the same sort of stories from folks who'd come up from the coal fields in Eastern Kentucky.

It wasn't so much "casual sex" as it was "just sex" with them. They still maintained the old fashioned "man's world/woman's world" social dichotmy. That way, somebody died or got "ruint" you just move in.

Not that the coal miners were into higher order philosophy, but lots of them were illiterate and looked at the Bible pretty much the same way Moslems look at the Koran ~ as a sacred and "magical" book, not to be read and studied, but just used to keep around for reading in case somebody ever learned to do that.

What is this ‘rules’ thing? Why does it come up whenever something like this is being commented upon?

Dumber then a sack of rocks. If they think there are no strings attached with casual sex they are sadly mistaken. Let's see, diseases, both curable and incurable, some being deadly, unwanted pregnancies which will mean more babies murdered. It's just to bad they are so public and kids look up to them.

This is what God says about that: 1 Corinthians 6:18 (New International Version, ©2010)
Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.
