Huckabee backed cap-and-trade in 2007 - Video

In my opinion, this should completely disqualify Mike Huckabee as a serious contender for the GOP nomination.

Mike Huckabee released the following statement today on his PAC website.

"In a recent internet post, a contributor makes the claim that I supported cap-and-trade in late 2007 while running for President.

To put it simply, that's just not true.

If companies chose to participate voluntarily as part of their corporate policy, then fine. But I was clear that we could not force U.S. businesses to do what their Chinese counterparts refused to - and doing so would have been a serious job killer.

I understand this issue well, and I realize the potential damage that would occur if it passes because I was the chair of the 37 state-member Oil and Gas Compact Commission for 2 years. In fact, I led the state or Arkansas through the process of developing the Fayetteville Shale play of natural gas.

This kind of mandatory energy policy would have a horrible impact on this nation's job market. I never did support and never would support it - period.

Sorry, Mike. The video doesn't lie.

From an October 13, 2007 speech at the Clean Air Cool Planet conference in Manchester, NH: (VIDEO AT LINK)

"I also support cap and trade of carbon emissions. And I was disappointed that the Senate rejected a carbon counting system to measure the sources of emissions, because that would have been the first and the most important step toward implementing true cap and trade."

I always believed Huckabee was nothing but a pro-life liberal. However, I wasn't aware that he a liar.

Huck, do us a favor and stick with your day job.

Huckabee has been a two-faced liar from day one.

I had actually thought this was a great commercial and a good slap in the face of the libs, until Huckabee lied about it when the heat was turned up.

Perhaps, but his “style” is to lie about it now.

Politicians all want to be seen to be on the side of the right and good. In 2007 even the most knowledgeable politicians were supporting cap and tax, or at least avoiding criticizing it.

Subsequently we've demonstrated that NASA, et al, were cooking the books on global warming.

Now, politicians still want to be on the side of the right and good ~ whatever it is.

Regarding what it was that the Huck said, if somebody has some decent sound quality I might listen to it.

BTW, I always distrust these garbled versions since that technique is frequently used to force you to read a supposed "transcript". Not that I suspect anyone of cheating, but guys, think of Rahm Emanuel and Nancy Pelosi ~ they cheat all the time, so why not the Mitbots doing all the Huck bashing.

I can understand the audio just fine. He said what the transcript says he said.

Yikes....Is this what the gas house gang looks like? Or is it the greenhouse gas gang? Which one is Dizzy Dean?

How about we cap and tax the lot of them?

I find it inaudible. Let’s find a better recording.

And to think, he actually expressed hope a few weeks ago, that Palin would endorse him. She wouldn’t anyway, but this is an absolute deal killer.

He needs to stay out of the race. He cannot win the nomination with this and the reminder of 4 dead cops hanging around his neck.

Perhaps it’s your speakers.

It’s around the 2:08 mark in the video.

That's better. Thanks for the reference.

Now, for what he said ~ there's a follow on to that sentence about "disappointed that the Senate....." that references "true cap and trade" ~ and then he references "measuring carbon emissions at the source" ~ which isn't the way Obama "cap and tax" was going to work.

So, what is he really saying here? Did he say "I embrace the AlGore/Obama Cap and Tax" or did he say "I support some other thing that's really the 'true cap and tax'" ~ pretty slick evasion.

Thats a lie....Palin commissioned a study on climate change or something like that but never endorsed any type of cap n trade alone by herself period....she had to accept the McCain signature Presidential platform on cap n trade, and if any of you people start with “well she said it as VP candidate” is deceiving since all other VP candidates had to accept the ideas and platforms of the Presidential nominee unless of course a piece of the platform were their own signature cause: Her’s being Drilling for Oil

"Perhaps it’s your speakers.

Yes, he clearly said it. It's easy to hear.

It's funny that even before Kyoto, this has been known to be a scam, but our "most knowledgeable politicians" didn't. That tells us that we need even more knowledgeable politicians, and Mike Huckabee (aka the Huckster) isn't one of them.

Did you forget to read about the Huck's earlier involvement in the development of NATURAL GAS RESERVES in Arkansas.

He's a "partisan" ~ natural gas, as everybody knows, has little or no carbon, so those who pump and use NG, even LNG, are UNAFFECTED.

Imagine that you are a partisan for NG ~ then COAL is the competition.

This hasn't got a lot to do with politics but more with fracking and overthrust belts!

BTW, Sarah is pretty much a partisan for the further development of Alaska's natural gas reserves.

There's probably a recording of her somewhere saying something about NG being able to dislodge coal from its market.
