A very old practice. It would be nice if we just stopped doing it.

NJ 6th Congressional District:

Held by Frank Pallone, member of the Progressive Causus and proud author of Obamacare. It incoprorates three counties and cuts through traditional Democrat strongholds of Asbury Park, Long Branch, Sayreville, New Brunswick and Plainfield, while Monmouth County, which makes up most of the 6th is strongly Republican.

The 6th must change.

Wow, I didn’t know there were any as bad as NC12.

Hopefully the new GOP majority in NC will redistrict, but NOT re-Gerrymander.

28th in Texas is pretty bad as well. Texas is BIG and Seguin has NOTHING in common with Laredo.

North Carolina may be the most egregiously gerrymandered state. All the democRATs win 55% 45%. The couple of Republicains who win are 75% 25%.

That will soon change. Republicains control the NC state house and senate for the first time in 112 years!!!

http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/252347/historic-gop-gains-state-legislatures-john-hood

• Going into the 2010 elections, Democrats held 60 partisan legislative chambers and Republicans held 36, with a couple of ties.

• It looks like the GOP has picked up an astounding 20 chambers, including both houses in Alabama, Maine, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Wisconsin and additional chambers in Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

• In total legislative seats, it is possible that after all the results are posted, Republicans will have won a nationwide majority.

• Republicans haven’t enjoyed this much power in state capitals since the 1920s.

The census is going to help GOP as people have been fleeing leftist state and moving to nice conservative states because of better taxes, nicer people, more jobs....

Next up redistricting!

We would be better off with no politicians. They are all corrupted eventually. The fact that districts are allowed to be drawn this way is evidence.

Absolutely! It cuts Middletown in half. Give the 6th Middletown and remove Plainfield and Pallone will be GONE!

It seems like a computer program could be written to divide up the house seats. It would then be totall unbiased.

Watch for it... with the GOP in more state-level offices, gerrymandering is gonna be "evil" and possibly racist, sexist, homophobist, and every other "ist" now, just like it was in the late 1990s and early 2000s. :)

Of course when the Democrats do it it is OK.

Actually, CA-23 looks like it could have a good basis for its existence. It is all coastal plus the offshore islands. There is plenty of obvious common interest there.

Look at Barney Frank's district for a good contender as the worst. There is zero common interest between the northern wealthy communities like Brookline and Newton, the central rural areas around Taunton, and the southern fishing towns like Fall River and New Bedford.

And remember, Massachusetts invented Gerrymandering.

The purpose of Gerrymandering?

To assure a democRat wins the district.

Are there any Gerrymandered districts whose sole existance is to guarantee a Republican representative?

NO.

Now, tell me how this is just.

NC 13 is pretty ugly, too, designed and laid out by the very man who now rules it, Mr Brad Miller. At least we got rid of Nelson Cole so it wasn't a total loss.
