Republican Tom Corbett handily won the governorship last night beating Democrat Dan Onorato. The unofficial tally with 53 districts -- 40 in Philadelphia and 13 in Delaware County -- to go was 2,136,683 votes to 1,783,581. With Republicans retaining control of the state Senate and winning the state House, Pennsylvania can make the elephant its official mascot for at least the next two years.
The senate race was much closer than expected and not called until after midnight when Democrat Joe Sestak conceded to Republican Pat Toomey. The unofficial tally as of midnight was 1,993,704 votes for Toomey to 1,916,284 votes for Sestak. Exit polls showed Toomey winning by 4 percent rather than the 2 that he did, but silly people should know that dead Philadelphians can't answer exit polls.

Now, Governor Corbett, and the GOP state legislature, reverse all the tax increases of the Rendell and Casey administrations. Cut state pension entitlements, and repeal a lot of the regulations from the Rendell and Casey regiemes, including the emission tests for our vehicles.
I really hate it that people call Pennsylvania a blue state. At the beginning of this decade, we had a republican governor, two republican senators, many republican Congressman and a Republican state legislature. We are getting back to that now. The only thing we don’t do is reliably vote for the Republican nominee for President but it’s usually very close. I’m not predicting that the Republican takes this state in the next election, but Obama is going to have to fight like hell for it. That’s for sure.
It also looks to me as if Obama has lost the mid Atlantic states of Virginia and North Carolina, plus Ohio and Florida. His path to victory in 2012 has narrowed considerably. As long as our side puts up a good candidate.
What a great night!
I wanted at minimum that we take the House and that Sleaze-Tax lose.
Thank you, Lord and Americans and Pennsylvanians for answering my prayers.
California?
If/when the ChiComs come to collect what we owe them, I say we just give the California.
This is wonderful. It feels good after so long.
The tar, feathers, and pitch forks are now all out.
Now that Republicans have the whole state, time to sort out Philly and its voting shams, you have 2 years to do it.
I successfully appealed my assessment the last two reassessments.
That's a huge "if". But it is certainly possible.
Since Rs will control the House for the next 2 years Obama and the media will blame everything bad on them while taking credit for anything good.
If there is a gov't shut down as in '95 it too will be blamed on the Rs (as in '95).
Last night was a very good night for the GOP but that just means the hard work is just beginning.
This was a great result—Republicans control everything in PA—but the two things that are still troubling are:
1. The Dem GOTV machine in PA is much better than the Republicans’ effort. That can’t all be chalked up to fraud. The GOP has to improve its ground game in PA if it wants to hold its gains.
2. Registration in the Philly suburbs in what used to be reliably Republican areas of Montgomery, Delaware and Chester counties has moved to an advantage for the Dems. That is what they built on to turn PA blue and that is what they will continue to build on to reverse GOP gains unless the GOP does something about it.
90 percent of that has to do with the fact we can't fire our teachers when they strike.
The rest has to do with union-scams like prevailing wage requirements for public construction.
That’s why it’s probably better that we didn’t take the senate. Zero will get the blame, just like Bush did.

Throw in MA, too - I am so sad this morning. This state is a mess. I guess they like the socialist/communist agenda up here.
Although in Delco, Meehan did beat Lentz pretty easily.
That detestable scumbag Patrick Murphy is gone (for now, at least).
He sold his soul to moveon.org, the trial lawyers, and every damn union in the state. He sold his endorsement of Obama for a bucket of campaign cash.
He campaigned as a paratrooper, when in fact, he was a JAG lawyer for the Army. He served in Iraq, but for him, that was only a stepping stone to further his political ambitions.
He sucked up to the worst of the worst in the House, Nancy Pelosi and John Murtha.
He ignored the people who elected him, and he hid from them.
Good riddance! (/rant)
The appeals process was a complete joke. First there was an informal interview conducted with a 21st Century flunkie, who usually consulted with an anonymous mass appraiser sitting in another room out-of-sight out-of-mind who usually refused to lower any of the newly assessed property values even when confronted with wildly lower private appraisals.
Next, at the second stage formal appeal, properties owners likewise found no relief from the board (comprised of the three sitting county commissioners) who also refused to accept the private appraisal data.
There were over 8,000 appeals, and such a backlog piled up that the commissioners missed the state mandated deadlines and set up a completely illegal series of auxiliary boards to try and get through the process. Hence, freedom Township's lawsuit.
Getting no satisfaction, most aggrieved property owners are now paying the $155 additional fee to file suit in court to challenge the new assessments, which is still playing put.
Murphy is not a lunatic. He knew exactly what he was doing, which makes it all the worse.
His voting record was among the most liberal in Congress, and yet he portrayed himself as a “conservative” Blue Dog.
To some extent, you can excuse Grayson simply because he’s nuts. Thank God the voters of his district corrected their mistake in only two years.
It took Bucks County four years, but they pulled the handle, and the flush is almost complete. (/rant pt. 2)
