George Stephanopoulos Lobbies GOP to 'Cooperate' With Dems..if Defeat Could be-'Blessing'for Obama

Good Morning America's George Stephanopoulos on Tuesday once again pushed Republicans who win on Election Day to "cooperate" with Barack Obama and also wondered if a defeat could be a "blessing" for the President.

Talking to Republican adviser Nicolle Wallace, the morning show host lobbied,

"But [Republicans] have to make a choice, as well. Do they choose to cooperate with President Obama and stand firm on principle, which is going to guarantee gridlock?"

Questioning former Obama aide Anita Dunn, he wondered if "having more Republicans in Washington is a blessing to him because it means that he must reach out to these independent voters, especially?"

The ex-Clinton operative turned journalist has been pushing this line of questioning for weeks. On October 19, Stephanopoulos complained to Senator John McCain:

"A majority of Americans, believe that President Obama is more interested in cooperation. Tea Party advocates more interested in division. How do you prove them wrong?"

On November 1, the host cited a quote by Jeb Bush as proof that Tuesday's results won't "validate" the GOP.

A transcript of the November 2 segment, which aired at 7:10am EDT, follows (at link).

DUNN:

George, he’s going to reach out to independent voters, as he has. I want to take a little issue with something Nicolle said. Which is, you know, the Republicans that win are not coming with a mandate.

Their political party has a lower approval rating than the Democratic Party, far lower than President Obama’s. They’re basically coming here because people are frustrated, they’re angry, and they want people to work together.

For two years, the Republican Party has said no. Refused to work with the White House. I think they’ll have to undergo an attitude change, as well. Or in two years, we’ll have a very different conversation.

To quote the Dems after 2008, "Elections have consequences" and to quote Obama in his first meeting with Congressional Repubs, "I won".

Payback is a Behar!

They're already getting dizzy trying to spin this disaster. Enjoy the next few days. We've earned it.

Yeah, cooperate the way Pelosi and Reid cooperated since 2006. Cut their committe seats way back and let them play with themselves in the corner while the adults take up all the unfinished work such as the budgets for ALL departments of the federal government and tax policy for the fiscal year which is 1/12 done already and get the fiscal year 2012 budget process back on track. In short, let the DemonRATS talk on Snuffaluffagus’ show.

Put a monkeywrench in the machine of Socialism. The shackles of slavery to the state are not easily cast off.

This administration’s agenda must grind to a halt until 2013 when a new president can do something different.

Even with a filibuster proof majority, the Democrats claimed there was “gridlock”.

We were told that voters were going to rebuke Republicans this election because they did not support Obamacare. Really?

That’s not what exit polls are indicating.

For two years, the Republican Party has said no. Refused to work with the White House.

So? The Dems had both houses and the Presidency. The Dems could do pretty much whatever they wanted, but there were some Dems not willing to go over the cliff with Barry and the gang.

theres a better idea. Obama work with the gop and compromise on his principles, so that we won’t have gridlock. Obama could sign the obamacare repeal, no gridlock unless obama make it so

I’ll wager a meal, that the RNC will not wait a week before appologizing to the DNC for winning. Then, I’ll wager another meal that the RNC will partially support the DNC, in an effort to ‘repair bridges’ that the DNC burnt.

The RNC simply lacks the guts and the intelligence to realize that they are fighting a war for the soul of our nation. The RNC has demonstrated time and time again that they both lack a spine, and a brain.

I hope I’m wrong, I really hope that the RINOS are all fired; but I’m willing to wager 2 meals that I’m not. And yes, I’m talking about all the Costco hot dogs you can eat.
