No such time ever existed. The members may have been anti-Communist because of the massacres in the Soviet Union and the Police States of the USSR/Warsaw Pact, but the leadership was solidly Red.

In the 1960's, Bill Winpisinger was the head of the IAM, the union that most aerospace workers belonged to. He was an open Communist and routinely visited the Soviet Union for "solidarity". It was no secret that he took his orders from the Kremlin. This was the man who controlled hundreds of thousands of people working on U.S. classified DoD projects.
