Seems there are plenty of NYC mosques that allow "religious freedom."

Number of mosques in New York in early 90’s = “8 or 9”

Number of mosques in New York today = NINETY

28 in Queens, 27 in Brooklyn, nearly 20 in Manhattan and in the Bronx and at least 8 in Staten Island.

“But increasingly, various New York neighborhoods with large Muslim populations are latching onto mosque construction as a way of making Islam more visible and improving the neighborhood.”

I think they probably own NYC by now.

How can they argue for ‘religious freedom’ when at the same time, they are saying this isn’t a mosque but just a ‘community center’?

If it is just a community center, then it has no religious protections (claimed or real), but instead, is just a building subject to zoning, etc.

This Mosque is meant as a Memorial to those who gave their lives in service to the Prophet. Built upon the ashes of the Infidels.
When will Obama call upon the Imams to apologize?

Kind of puts me in mind of another city that recieved an Islamic place of worship...The story of Jerusalem and the Dome of the Rock is well known. See this article for more details.

“The Dome of the Rock, then, calls Christians to accept Islam and to recognize the true place of Jesus in the plan of God. Apparently the original purpose of the Islamic shrine was to emphasize the superiority of Islam over Christianity. The Dome of the Rock was built to proclaim the central tenets of Islam: the unity of God and the finality of Mohammed’s role as God’s prophet. It is a statement, in most tangible form, that proclaimed that the Arab conquest of what had been a Christian city for four hundred years had more than political consequences. It transformed Jerusalem into an Islamic city that is to proclaim the message of Mohammed to the world. Because the structure was built on a site that rabbinic tradition associated with Abraham, it also serves to coopt the patriarch for the new faith. Of course, the Dome of the Rock stands on the place where Solomon’s temple once stood. The Muslim shrine than implies that Islam has also replaced Judaism. Apparently, then, the original purpose of the Dome of the Rock was to emphasize the superiority of Islam over both Judaism and Christianity.

...The Dome of the Rock was built to proclaim the superiority of Islam over Judaism and Christianity and to give Jerusalem an Islamic identity.”

Exactly. They don’t need one at ground zero!

Beck did a segment on this. I don’t recall the number, but there are quite a few that one MUST pass in order to get to the one that is being planned. IIRC he also said the intended purpose of the mosque doesn’t fit with the non-residential surroundings and would not be nearly as easy to get to as the already existing mosques.
