Dee Snider was recently on the Wendy Williams show talking about how Tipper Gore targeting his band Twisted Sister as a reason for warning labels on music back in the 80's. See the embedded video at the original post here, or on YouTube.
Something had to get Tipper's panties in a bunch, and we know it wasn't Al. So the question is...why pick on Twisted Sister?
If you forget the fact that these guys look like they just did the walk of shame from Barney Frank's house their song sounds something like an anthem for the Tea Party...
Of course the Dems wanted to stop them...
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
oh We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore
we've Got The Right To Choose And
there Ain't No Way We'll Lose It
this Is Our Life, This Is Our Song
we'll Fight The Powers That Be Just
don't Pick Our Destiny 'cause
you Don't Know Us, You Don't Belong
oh We're Not Gonna Take It
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
oh We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore
oh You're So Condescending
your Gall Is Never Ending
we Don't Want Nothin', Not A Thing From You
your Life Is Trite And Jaded
boring And Confiscated
if That's Your Best, Your Best Won't Do
oh.....................
oh.....................
we're Right/yeah
we're Free/yeah
we'll Fight/yeah
you'll See/yeah
oh We're Not Gonna Take It
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
oh We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore
oh We're Not Gonna Take It
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
oh We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore
no Way!
oh.....................
oh.....................
we're Right/yeah
we're Free/yeah
we'll Fight/yeah
you'll See/yeah
we're Not Gonna Take It
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
we're Not Gonna Take It Anymore
we're Not Gonna Take It, No!
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
we're Not Gonna Take It Anymore
just You Try And Make Us
we're Not Gonna Take It
come On
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
you're All Worthless And Weak
we're Not Gonna Take It Anymore
now Drop And Give Me Twenty
we're Not Gonna Take It
oh Crinch Pin
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
oh You And Your Uniform
we're Not Gonna Take It Anymore

Twisted Sister did more than 1 song.
Their amps went to ELEVEN too!

Why is Sarah Jessica Parker in that picture?
Does Dee Snider still do the syndicated Hair-Metal radio show “House of Hair”? He’s an excellent host and seems like the type of guy that might lean conservative. The ‘Stay Hungry’ album was my virtual Junior High anthem. Great memories. By the way, Twisted Sister is as much glam as anything. Over-the-top glam, as a matter of fact. I don’t know why Tipper Gore had issues with them. These days most pop music is hyper-sexualized with acts like ‘Lady Gaga’ and Twisted Sister is mild in comparison.
Twisted Sister was AMAZING !!
Here it the anthem song we need today !!

Gather ‘round us, join with the band
Together we’re stronger, together we’ll stand
Say what can you do, well we’ve got a plan
And we’re gonna take you to the promised land
It’s time to remember, it’s time to move on
They’ve pushed it too far, they don’t know what they’ve done
If it’s a fight that they want, then it’s a fight that they’ll get
We never lose, honey, so place your bets
Long ago and far away
We had a voice, you know that we had a say
We won’t live for yesterday
Ready or not, we’re gonna have our way
We got the numbers, we got the might
We got the strength, and we got the right
We got the reason, we got the night
So wake up the sleeping giant
Not one more minute, not one more day
We’ve waited too long, can’t let our chance slip away
We won’t stop ‘til we get it, we won’t stop ‘til we’re done
We’ll bite and we’ll claw until they’ve lost and we’ve won
We took all we’re gonna take
It’s got to stop, you know there’s too much at stake
Who the hell are they to say
What we can do and how we can play
We got the numbers, we got the might
We got the strength, and we got the right
We got the reason, we got the night
So wake up the sleeping giant
Whoa, wake up the sleeping giant
Whoa, wake up the sleeping giant
Let’s push to the limit, so let’s push ‘til we’re home
We’ve been good too long, they wouldn’t leave us alone
It’s our rights they’re abusing, it’s our right to fight back
So rally the troops and let’s start the attack
We got the numbers, we got the might
We got the strength, and we got the right
We got the reason, we got the night
So wake up the sleeping giant
Whoa, we got the numbers, you know we got the might
Whoa, wake up the sleeping giant
Whoa, we got the reason and we’re ready to fight
Whoa, wake up the sleeping giant
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE!
I wanna ROOOOOCCCCCCCKKKK!
...and look where we are now.
If the PMRC Senate hearings were held today, what artists would testify in front of congress?
When TS opened for Maiden in Detroit (mid 80’s), Snider came out on stage with a pink picket fence. The fans booed and every time they tried to play, they were drowned out by “Maiden! Maiden!” Snider eventually capitulated with a bow, “You want Maiden; you got Maiden.” Maiden played an extra hour (or more) that night. Tough act to open for (at least back then).
What disappointed me about Frank Zappa, was that although it was right to attack the Democrats, like Tipper Gore who were on the PMRC, he still had more venom for the Republicans, I never got that.

Saw an interview awhile back (recorded much earlier) with Snider where he claimed “Conservatives in Congress” were to blame for all their troubles with the PMSNBC (or whatever), while showing Tipper (VRWC) Gore testifying.
Yes, but We’re Not Going To Take It was the song specifically mentioned in the Wendy Williams interview.
We’re Not Gonna Take It is most noteworthy for having the worst guitar solo of all time. It sounds like it was played on a Fisher Price guitar by a mongoloid.
No the guy on the far left looks like my mother in law... Scarey.
The FUNNY part of all of this is Dee Snyder is STILL married to his wife and has been since 1981 and the Gore’s are divorcing. HUMMM who the “Moral’ one here?!
What disappointed me about Frank Zappa, was that although it was right to attack the Democrats, like Tipper Gore who were on the PMRC, he still had more venom for the Republicans, I never got that.
Look at the tea party movement of the modern age... it succeeds because it doesn't pander to the self-righteous, bible thumping, abortion protesting, book burning right. The Tea Party's primary focus has been on our constitution rights, and fiscal responsibility of government. RINOs are in the crosshairs as well.
Still, I know what you mean... FZ's easiest target was the establishment. Politically, he came off as a libertarian at times... with shades of anarchist.
What disappointed me about Dee Snider is that although he supported McCain, his hatred of Bush forced him to vote for Obama.
I think out of the three of them, John Denver's testimony in front of the PMRC Senate hearing was the best, though his statement got kinda loony at the very end.
It's on YouTube.
