GOP Congressman Floors Bill to Kill November Lame Duck Session

Republican Study Committee Chairman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement after offering a resolution on the floor of the House of Representatives calling on Congress not to hold a lame duck session after midterms- likely to be exploited to pass hugely unpopular legislation like a national energy tax, enormous deficit spending bills, and the kickback to the unions known as Card Check- ______________________________________________

“Americans are sick and tired of their elected leaders making backroom deals to ram through unpopular, 2000-page bills that no one has read,” said Chairman Price. “They are sick of out-of-touch politicians, and they are tired of being ignored. A number of Democrats, including members of their leadership, have recently expressed a desire to ignore the public will and use a lame duck session to pass liberal legislation Americans do not want. Today I gave my Democrat colleagues an opportunity to show they are finally ready to listen to the American people.

“Our system of government rests upon the consent of the governed, but it is quite clear that Democrats no longer have Americans’ consent. The public’s trust in this Congress has been repeatedly broken. Voting for a national energy tax and other items on the liberal wish list in a lame duck session would shatter it beyond repair. Republicans are fully prepared to do what is necessary to restore Americans’ trust in their elected representatives. We know it will be a long road, but it is one well worth traveling.” ______________________________________________

Instead of taking a clear stand on this issue, House Democrats chose to delay a vote on the Price resolution.... the full text of the bill is available at Reaganite Republican

With profligate Dems scheming to ram-through Cap-n-Tax, Card Check, and still more spending in the wake of their crushing November defeat, here's the stand-up Republican who aims to put a stop it... calling it "dangerous"

No freaking way can the Dems be allowed to get away with this... NO way

Americans are so sick that they’ll re-elect the same politicians. Expecting 1994 again? Not at all.

It’s time to plan for constant and massive marches on D.C.

What would happen if the “good guys” simply don’t show up for the Lame Duck sesssion? How about if taxpayers refuse to pay for it?

Its a wonderful gesture but i don’t see how it passes. The easy out for them Dems is to say they have always held these sessions and they would be cheating the taxpayer by not working. We know the truth and i myself have feared that session for a good six months now for the mischief it may allow.
I can pray it passes but i don’t see how.

They’ve already made the ploy that the only time available to extend the tax cuts will be after Election Day, it must, simply must be done during a lame-duck session, doncha know.

Very weird and inappropriate use of the word “floor.” He “offered” or he “submitted” a resolution. He did so on the floor. He did not floor it, unless he 1) knocked it down or 2) revved its accelerator. Is English this person’s native language?

There was NEVER a chance of this resolution seeing the light of day. I admired Rep. Price for offering the resolution and I support his effort. If the shoe was on the other foot, the Republicans would have voted the same. No party in power is going to hamstring it's own legislative agenda. It is nice to have it on record though. The article needs a link to the actual vote record so the Diminuitives and RINOs who voted to table the motion could be known. Unfortunately, while our beloved country is being socialized before our very eyes, I would imagine that 2 out of 3 voters will be more interested in the new fall TV lineup than politics. We are witnessing the organized destruction of anything remotely resembling the Republic. I imagine ourselves to be akin to the Roman Empire for the last 100 years—a Republic in name only with the oligarchy in charge. And yet even as Rome burned, I can imagine the average citizen was mostly interested in the next handout or the next game in the coliseum. We have fulfilled the plans, designs and schemes of those who have hated this country for over 100 years.
In my honest opinion it is time to sit down, take off our boots and scrape the accumulated manure of these past 100 years off and try it again. In other words dear reader, re-form the union less the rules, regulations, laws, courts, and executive orders that have neutered us as a nation and start all over again identifying and rejecting any word or deed resembling Socialism, Fascism, Marxism, or Communism; regain our founders vision; rebuild the engine that is America.

"they would be cheating the taxpayer by not working..."

What?

What have they been doing for the past 18 months? The biggest rip off of taxpayers in this nation's history...I would WELCOME them to not come to work for three months...we'd save a fortune.

The damage they would do to taxpayers, legislatively, during a LAME DUCK session would far surpass their salaries and expenses.

It takes grass roots leadership. It takes someone to stand before us, and to turn us all into raving fanatics.

Carter ushered in REagan...I always thought that he would have been an even better president had he been elected four years before hand.

I’m praying the same thing will happen in 2012.

Conservative prinicples are easy to understand. It’s like faith in God. You don’t have to conjure up, some political hokey pokey like the liberals do to hide their true selves.

Saying this, it comes down to having a leader with character who makes us again proud to be an American. Maybe it’s someone like the governor of Louisiana...I don’t know...

I only know that conservative principles, a free and vibrant economy, will send us to an even higher period of prosperity.

We needed this catharsis....

I find it amazing how people on this site resort to the dem tricks. Was that me saying they would be cheating the tax payer or did i say,”The easy out for them Dems is to say they have always held these sessions and they would be cheating the taxpayer by not working.” which is of course saying the dems will use that as an excuse.
You just earned a trip into the dictionary under,”taking out of context.”

I find it equally amazing for someone who has been around this board as long as you to not know I was answer the STATEMENT, not the poster.

Sorry you took it wrong, I will avoid any future posts of yours like the plague.
