In addition to Maine (where it's the state capital), there's also a sizeable city named Augusta in Georgia, and smaller towns of the same name in Arkansas, Kansas and Montana. (This according to an index of towns and cities in a medium-sized atlas. There are almost certainly other Augustas that were deemed too small to be included in the index.)

Augusta State University is in Georgia.

Unless it has developed a collegiate system that I'm not aware of, "Augusta State" ain't in Maine.

Besides, "Augusta, Maine" is barely a small city. Never Mind a state. :-)
