Christians, by definition, love Jesus and people. Christians delight to invite the whole world to come to the Lord’s Table. Christians yearn to see all nations bow before the Eternal King, and towards that end they pray, fast, and preach the glories of the Jewish Messiah.

Is Jesus central, or peripheral? Who, or what, is the primary focus of our allegiance — the Lamb Slain from the foundation of the world, or a secular socialist democracy that reviles Jesus?

I'm not dealing with the theological issue. Rather, the source that attacks Jews, but sucks up to Muslim Turks. Hence, dhimmi.

When I was a lad, living under the shadow of The Bomb, the three main adversaries to the Christian faith were godless Soviet Communism (the big, visible, scary adversary), Islam (quaint, rustic, and far away in some Ali Baba theme park / costume ball storyland) and secular humanism (invisible, since it was the defining motif of American public life).

God, in His mercy, swept one enemy off the stage -- and today, Russian school kids are studying the Bible and the Christian faith.

Secular Humanism is losing its protective camouflage -- today, millions of Christian parents in America are undoing that enemy by starving it of the resource it most lusts after -- our children. The enemies of our faith are aborting, contracepting, and buggering themselves out of the race, and rendering their team incompetent in the temples of secular humanism. The future looks kinda bright for those who love the Lord -- or at least, for their grandchildren.

Islam is suddenly on our radar screen -- and only the gospel of Jesus Christ can help us there. The full Gospel, that is, one that applies to all of life, not just "religious" life. Islam, after all, is a total world and life view. We need to offer the Muslim more than a religious experience, a "navel view."

God's family is big enough to encompass many assignments, many tasks. We're "adopting" Turkish grad students, for example. It's our family project for the Kingdom -- a small-scale, low-pressure presentation of the gospel to a needy population that believes (since this is what Hollywood teaches the world) that Americans are indifferent to faith and family. Show an interest in someone's language, and you have a superhighway to their heart. But make no mistake -- the bottom line is -- we are working and praying for their conversion.

If God has tasked you with the assignment of evangelizing the unbelieving Jews, may His favor rest upon your mission. The founding pastor of our church, Ron Lewis, is Jewish. And Christian. Out of love for the Jewish people, we do our best to win them to the Lord Jesus Christ.
