RUMINT has it the Corps is looking for it as a replacement for the M4s (without all the red tape), not the SAW.

M27 to replace the SAW/LMG. Not a good idea. I'm going with the RUMINT on this one. Bypassing red tape bringing the M27 in under the guise of LMG replacement....when in fact it won't be issued as that on the line.

I'm a 7.62mm fan myself, throwing more weight downrange is more
effective keeping heads down. It can walk the talk, so to speak. They
need a lighter M-60 type of MG, and everyone in the squad can wear
a belt or bandelero of 7.62 belt ammo without any problems.
