Sometimes really smart people fail to understand their situation because they lose perspective. When I think of paradigm shifts, I think back on one of the most profound books ever: “The Gulag Archipelago.”

Even as everything is being taken away from them, they still have not grasped the situation, they don’t understand the context; they and their captors are not thinking the same way. Like Dorothy, they are not in Kansas any more.
Two recent articles helped me to understand the Obama administration; one by Charles Krauthammer and one by Dorothy Rabinowitz. The Krauthammer article, and many just like it, chide Obama for failing to understand that gentle persuasion will not accomplish America’s goals. But that assumes that Obama’s goals are the goals that are congruent with the goals that previous presidents and previous American governments had.
That may be a fundamental error and could explain Obama and his policies.

These are not mutually exclusive, especially in Obama’s case.
I remember a Star Trek Next Generation episode where stupid aliens kidnapped La Forge to “Make ship go”.
Is Obama incompetent?
Doesn’t that depend on his intentions.
More Socialism. More class warfare. More alienating allies and encouraging enemies. More vilification of Capitalism. More and more long lasting harm to the interests of the American people.
Consider his intentions- Obama may be the most competent man to ever hold that office.

Alien or incompetent? He is neither. He is an American muslim. He belongs to the faith and pursues the same goals of a religion that hanged a 7-year-old in Obama’s beloved Pakistan. The child was hung by muslims to punish his grandfather. You know of a more evil act? This is a reflection of Obama’s personal religion.

Very true, and I would add “…with practiced, world-class political assets at his disposal.”
If, as the author above contends, Krauthammer assumes Obama’s goals are congruent with the goals that previous presidents and previous American governments had - then Krauthammer is a tool.
There is absolutely nothing in the public record of Obama’s history that suggests he has the views of a patriotic American.
The Republicans have until Nov 2010 to effectively bring this fact to the attention of voting Americans – if we are lucky.
Alien or incompetent are not mutually exclusive. He is indeed both. Plus he is on a course to totally destroy America as we have known it.
