You must announce that they are trespassers and order them to leave, then you must wait until they break, or attempt to break, a lock, door, or window, or the employ a deadly weapon against the home. At this point a “reasonable man” would be in fear of life.

In Virginia you’d have to let them kick your front door down, and then you would have to retreat until you could retreat no farther. Then you can shoot them, and you would probably be charged with first degree murder.
