According to the US State Department Human Rights Report on Mexico:

... there were reports that security forces, acting both within and outside the line of duty, killed several persons, including minors, during the year…

... more than 8,000 persons were killed in drug-related violence during the year...

There were a number of killings that may have been politically motivated…

An estimated 10,000 private security firms operated in the country, of which 80 percent reportedly did not meet legal registration requirements. This..led to concerns about vigilantism…

... there were multiple reports of forced disappearances by the army and police...In several cases of reported disappearances, security forces had detained the missing persons incommunicado for several days…

Kidnapping remained a serious problem for persons of all socioeconomic levels... kidnappings rose from 325 in 2005 to 820 in 2008. Express kidnappings, in which a victim is detained for a short period to extract payment, often through forcing the victim to use an ATM card to drain a bank account, remained a problem…

...approximately 10,000 migrants were kidnapped as they attempted to cross the border into the United States... the government did not respond adequately to migrant kidnappings. Many migrants were reluctant to report such crimes out of fear of being deported…

... conditions for female prisoners were inferior to those for men, particularly for women who lived with their children in prison. There were anecdotal reports of sexual abuse of women while in detention. Pretrial detainees were routinely held together with convicted criminals…

President Calderon remarked in speeches in March and October that corruption was a serious problem in the police forces and a primary reason for the use of the military in the domestic counternarcotics fight…

I’ve been doing my own personal boycott of Mexico for the past year. When buying produce, if I see it is coming from Mexico, I don’t buy it. The quality isn’t good anyway, usually dirty lettuce, non-freshing looking cherries, it all looks very unsanitary.

We can’t boycott Mexico, NAFTA rules probably forbid it! Besides, a mexican owns the New York times now,, doesn’t he? Without their support it’d never fly.

why not boycott U.S. Companies that employ illegals. Meat packing industry is a good target.

Large institutional AG companies are also likely offenders. Some of the very worst offenders are; fast food companies, big hotel chains and big box retailers(not pointing at any specifically, but use your imagination and or experience)

Ditto. I haven’t gone down there except on business in 8 years. Too bad...I used to enjoy the place.

But they can pound sand.

Won’t buy anything made or harvested there either.

Check labels folks.

Finally, someone gets it! When a big country boycotts a small country, it works.

I’ve been boycotting Mexico for 10 years.
Their infested produce covered with any and every chemical was first.

When they stood up years ago, condemning the USA and booing our soccer team shouting, “OSAMA, OSAMA”, I was done.

The rest of the country should have been done with them by then as well and we wouldn’t be in this impossible mess now.

Mexico has never been any kind of ally of the US. They consistently vote against us and with Iran, etc. at the UN.

[snip]
Nevertheless, Mexico voted against the United States 62 percent of the time.
www.heritage.org/.../US-Foreign-Aid-and-United-Nations-Voting-Records

BUT, sometimes we bribe them to vote with us...

[snip]Under the same programme, Mexico received about 10 million dollars last year and 12 million dollars this year. It also received 28.2 million dollars in U.S. Economic Support Funds (ESF).(this was years ago, Mexico gets billions now)

How Mexico felt about Iraq: [snip]President Vicente Fox heavily criticized the war when it started and Mexican diplomats described their conversations with U.S. officials as hostile in tone and that Washington was demonstrating little concern for the constraints of the Mexican government whose people were overwhelmingly opposed to the war with Iraq.

“Especially in the produce section of your grocery.

Lots of canned, packaged stuff from Mexico, too. Often the package won’t say Mexico...it will say ‘imported by/distributed by a USA addressed firm, but it’s from Mexico or China, especially if the USA address is near the border.
