The National Enquirer broke the story of Jesse Jackson’s affair, John Edwards’ affair, and Tiger Woods’ affairs.
Time-Lies’ Mark Halperin was more concerned with rumors that John McCain had an affair with a lobbyist (still unconfirmed).

The lobbyist in the McCain “affair” sued the NYT and, I think, it has already been settled. The “affair” was “still unconfirmed” because it never happened.

The National Enquirer accuses every public figure of infidelity on a regular basis (I suspect they have some kind of rota). By the law of averages they are going to get some right. Its a "shotgun" approach to journalism.
