My Response To A Family Member Shocked That I, A Hispanic American, Support The Tea Party Movement

Why Does It Always Come Back To Race?

A family member recently left a comment on my Facebook page shocked to find out that I am a staunch conservative and a Tea Party supporter. The hostility was undeniable. His comment demanded to know if I was equally vocal when Bush as he claimed "ran our country into the ground." He went on to add the usual liberal talking points claiming that Bush left a huge deficit and where was my outrage then. I calmly had to set him straight on the deficit and how Obama has spent half in one year what Bush did his entire eight years in office.

His response quickly got down to the heart of the matter. He stated that Americans just won't accept change. Adding...."What I mean by change is a black man as president." He went on to say that we should be celebrating the fact that a black man was elected president in such a "racist" country instead of protesting.

I was dumbfounded but not surprised. Why does it always come down to race? My intent in writing about this is not to ridicule him but rather to inform those of the same mindset being fueled by the liberal main stream media why the race argument is unsound. Out of respect for him I will not share his actual letter but I feel compelled to share my response.

George Bush won a sizable portion of the Hispanic vote in Texas.

Why does it always come down to race?

Because that's the ultimate way to shut somebody up, or so they think. When they can't argue against your facts all they have to do is shout 'racism' at the top of their lungs.

No thinking on their part is required.

If your family members were smart, they'd be supporting the Tea Party movement too, unless of course they want America to become like Greece in say 10 years or less?
Debt Ratings Are Lowered for Portugal and Greece
One can't just keep spending $200,000 a year, when one is making only $100,000 and keep doing it for decades, without facing the consequences.

Let’s face it. There are significant numbers of minorities who don’t like whites and feel that it’s okay to be that way. I’m not saying it’s the majority, or even that the percentage is high, but it is significant. Racism of any type is wrong, even if it comes from groups who have suffered discrimination. By saying that this is a racist country your family member is essentially saying that most whites are racist. That is just not so, and it does no one any good to perpetuate those beliefs.

I’ve been to several Tea Party events.

There were plenty of people from all backgrounds there, race, creed, color, socio-economic.

Guys in ties to bikers.

FWIW, I went with my Indian (from India) doctor neighbor.

I’m Hispanic and am also having the same problem on Facebook. Mostly people I’ve known for decades and thought were my friends. They are very ethno-centric and irrational.

“I’m Hispanic and am also having the same problem on Facebook. Mostly people I’ve known for decades and thought were my friends. They are very ethno-centric and irrational.”

I’m so sorry this issue has come to this. It will be most difficult for those of you of ‘hispanic’ descent. You truly are the ‘invisible Americans’, without a voice.

Do not despair, we are with you all the way, and here is one ‘hispanic’ conservative voice in AZ, that you should get to know.

Meet Steve Montenegro, himself an immigrant from El Salvador and now a member of the Arizona State Legislature.

Here is a promising rising star that the GOP needs to promote! Regarding the phony charge that all ‘latinos’ will be targets of this law.......Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

“He shouldn’t worry says Steve Montenegro, himself an immigrant from El Salvador and now a member of the State Legislature. Montenegro voted for the controversial immigration law which he says opponents are distorting.

“That it is a race issue, anti-Hispanic and anti-immigrant bill,” Montenegro said. “It couldn’t be farther from the truth.”

What the bill does he says is give police another tool to fight crime that comes with the flood across the border.

“It’s going crazy here,” Montenegro said. “And the federal government time and again failed tremendously to protect its citizens and secure the border.”

My once conservative, now a liberal, son left my home after a visit, posting to his Facebook that he was leaving “Palin-ville had heading back to civilization”

That “civilization” is Memphis, where only a few weeks ago they had shooting, fights, and general bedlum at “free day at the zoo”...where crime is off the meter...where crooked democrat politicians are going to jail in record numbers..etc

Anywhere in this country where democrats have had power for a considerable time, the citites regress into hell-holes:

Detroit, Memphis, New Orleans...and so many more.

I’ll stay in Palin-ville...let liberal LIVE in the mess they have created.

An excellent response and article - thanks for sharing it
Just one 'nit' because it is a pet peeve of mine -- although it was best the author didn't go down this rabbit path in her article - because our focus needs to be to stop the left-wing takeover of America and the destruction of our Constitutional Republic. But that said, my pet peeve - I absolutely disagree with this comment:

Additionally the fact that a Black man was elected president proves that America is not a racist country.

The fact that a completely unqualified, racist, abortion-loving, Bible denying, fraud was elected solely based on the color of his skin ... kind of does imply we are a racist nation. Or a nation where skin color trumps character.

Thanks. But this sort of thing can bring out the worst in people. I lost my best friend because of it; nevertheless, it is important to always do what is right and that trumps any friendship because I love my country and true Americans like you more that my “friends”.

Lives are at stake and victims as well. May God bless us all.

Just like Jews who voted for Obama with his anti-Semite views....

Just like Blacks who vote for Democrats who want to keep them on the plantations...

And now we see Hispanics who want to fling the door wide open to illegal immigrants.

What’s wrong with these people?

Legal Hispanics are already on the bottom of the food chain. They are fighting tooth and nail for housing, jobs, schools and a chance at the American Dream.

Do they not realize that 20-30 million illegals will only reduce and diminish their chances at getting a job, or sending their kids to school?

What’s wrong with these people?

Illegal immigrants affect me in that I will pay taxes to sustain their criminal activity. But at least I won’t lose my job to a Mexican.

What’s wrong with these people?

“Thanks. But this sort of thing can bring out the worst in people. I lost my best friend because of it”

Indeed. I’ve lost family over it. Surprisingly, some of them are coming around. Have hope!

Disappointment brings discouragement.

Constant failure to realize our plans or expectations will cause us to lose confidence and hope,

and inability to handle disappointment becomes a great tool.

The following story, given to me by a friend and mentor 45 years ago,

written by Walter Knight, illustrates.

Discouragement

It was advertised that the Devil was going to put his tools up for sale.

On the day of the sale the tools were placed for public inspection,

each being marked with its sale price.

They were a treacherous lot of implements....

Hatred, Envy, Jealousy, Deceit, Lying, Pride,

and so on comprised the outfit.

Laid apart from the rest was a harmless looking tool,

well worn, and priced very high.

“What is the name of this tool?”

asked one of the purchasers, pointing to it.

“That is discouragement” tersely replied the Devil.

“Why have you priced it so high?”

“Because it is more useful to me than the others.

I can pry open and get inside a man’s heart with that,

when I cannot get near him with other tools.

Once I get inside, I can make him do what I choose.

It is badly worn because I use it on almost everyone,

since few people know it belongs to me.”

You truly are the ‘invisible Americans’, without a voice.

Given how rarely politicos listen to the people they supposedly represent, I'd say most Americans are "without a voice" right now. Time to change that.

Here is a better immigration policy I think most people would agree with. For everyone here illegally that is sent back to their home country, let in those who followed the rules, did the paperwork, and have done it the way it should be. Also make a law saying that if you ever were convicted of identity theft, you never will be a US citizen. I think these are fair and would encourage doin it right.
