RAW VIDEO: Street Gangs May Bring Drug War To El Paso, TX

As the Sinaloa and Juarez cartels shoot it out in Juárez, Mexico where 5,000 people have been murdered since 2008 in a battle for control over the smuggling routes into El Paso, TX, law enforcement is increasingly concerned that U.S-based street and prison gangs who serve as proxies for the drug cartels may step up the violent rivalry on the north side of the border as reported by Aileen B. Flores for the El Paso Times:

Two gangs could be on a collision course in El Paso, says an FBI specialist. Marco Cordero, a special agent with the FBI's gang task force, said the Barrio Azteca and Los Sureños gangs may start a power struggle.

Barrio Azteca is aligned with the Juarez cartel, and Los Sureños with the Sinaloa cartel.

Meanwhile, "chilling video captured by a security camera shows more than a dozen armed men carrying out a shooting spree in broad daylight that left eight people dead last month in Mexico's Chihuahua state" as reported by Nick Valencia for CNN:

In the video obtained by CNN on Saturday, the men -- believed to be hit men for a drug cartel -- are seen opening fire with assault rifles into nearby vehicles and a housing complex. A 14-year-old girl was among the eight victims of the March 15 killings in the town of Creel, according to Carlos Gonzalez, a spokesman for the state attorney general's office. "We don't know what group these hit men are part of, but here in Chihuahua there are two warring groups: the Sinaloa Cartel and Juarez Cartel," Gonzalez said. "We're working on trying to figure out which group was responsible."

Texas, no slouch with death penalty cases, should consider enlarging the number of crimes which warrant death sentences, and should be on the lookout for ways to expedite the carrying out of such sentences.

Let’s face it. This list is far too long. This backlog needs to be eliminated.

New Mexico and Arizona could speed up their lists a whole lot more as well.
