Redstone Explosion - UPDATE

Two people are being treated after being critically burned after an explosion at Redstone Arsenal. We’re told that the incident happened at Building 7352 around 8:45am.
Officials with Redstone Arsenal briefed the media on the situation Wednesday morning. The victims names were not released but officials say both men had years of experience. Arsenal officials say no one at the Arsenal is at risk because of the explosion and that the building was made to contain these types of blasts.

Officials with the Madison County EMA say the building was demolished in the blast. The explosion was described as a “chemical type explosion”. Initial reports of a fatality on the scene are not accurate, according to EMA and HEMSI .

“The first thing they did was conduct X-rays to give them an idea of what was inside the box if anything. They saw nothing. At that point, they cut a hole in side of the truck on the left side of the truck so they could visually inspect inside to make sure the X-rays hadn’t missed anything. The X-ray was confirmed, there was nothing inside. They had also inspected the engine, the undercarriage and the cab; all negative for anything dangerous.”
A Bridge and Tunnel Authority officer reportedly saw the driver jump out of the truck and then run toward the Queens side of the bridge.
Police are searching for the driver who left the truck.
