Federalized Higher Education

While we are all focused on health care, while immigration and cap & trade wait in the wings, we shouldn't forget the fourth leg of Obama's nasty tricks to "change" America: education reform. One might argue that George W Bush already federalized public school education with his infamous No Child Left Behind legislation. Whether one believes its consequences have been positive or negative, one cannot dispute that NCLB has effectively given the federal government control over critical parts of the public school curriculum. State and local officials understand very well that they must teach and test what the feds want, or they won't be able to feed at the federal education trough, to whose content they are hopelessly addicted.

Unintended consequences? Too many articles, including this one, provide a long list of horrors but cede the high ground by stating that most of them are unintended. I would postulate that most of these results are intended and viewed as money well spent.

I knew a guy who is a right winger. He’s a retired deputy sheriff who was shot on the job and took retirement. He voted for Kerry. He couldn’t force himself to vote for W because of the Patriot Act.

Now, the liberals can throw the Patriot Act in our faces when we complain about government intrusion. No matter how little the intrusion was.

A lot of “respectable” conservative writers know what the score is but bend over backwards to be “fair and balanced” and not sound like flaming rightwing bloggers.

I’m sure that in private conversation most of them would voice the same suspicions that we do here. What has happened to education in this country is the culmination of a plan that was hatched long ago by Marxists and encouranged and financed by the USSR.
