The Courage of Danny Tarkanian
Return to Rome ^ | March 15, 2010 | Francis Beckwith

In 1990, the prolife movement was on the ropes. After the U. S. Supreme Court in Webster v. Reproductive Services (1989) seemed to indicate it was on the verge of overturning Roe v. Wade (1973), the abortion choice movement kicked into high gear. (Of course, Roe did not get overturned, but was reaffirmed on different grounds in Casey v. Planned Parenthood [1992]).

The prolife movement was not prepared for its opponents' aggressive political and media campaigns that employed the specter of Roe's possible demise as a wedge issue in a number of elections throughout the United States. One of these elections was ballot question 7, a 1990 referendum in Nevada that was intended to codify Roe v. Wade as a part of Nevada statutory law. Abortion choice supporters proposed this ballot question so that if Roe were overturned by the Court, the right to abortion would remain undisturbed in Nevada. (Remember, an overturning of Roe v. Wade would only send the issue of abortion back to the states. It would not entail an elimination of the right to abortion per se. For more on Roe v. Wade, see my law review article here.).

I’m in for whoever wins the primary, they are all better people than Reid. Full disclosure, I just finished writing a book about Reid if anyone in Danny’s camp wants to know.

Too bad Lowden voted and contributed thousands to Reid...just the kind of Republican we want.

It’s not just Lowden, Lois Tarkanian did as well. And don’t get me started on Republicans For Reid, what a bunch of suck up those people are. As I said, I just wrote a 312 page book on the Reid. I know who all the sell outs are.

Ask Anthony Marnell and Sig Rogich why Reid supports the DesertXPress.

whatisthetruth, are you still in denial over Danny Tarkanian's support of an Assault Weapons Ban, his endorsement by the Brady Campaign, and their work on behalf of his election in his last campaign?

Are you still denying those facts?

Lowden is not perfect, and neither is Tarkanian. Stop trying to pretend Lowden is a RINO for supporting Reid 30 years ago when he claimed to be a pro-life conservative Democrat. If Lowden is a RINO, gun-grabbing Danny Tarkanian is a RINO as well.

Lowden is on record as being pro-choice as late as '93. She won in a heavily Rat district in '92. Nevada is a pro-life state, why would Lowden see any advantage by remaining a GOP pro-choicer?

Her position is not consistent with that of the Roman Catholic church which she claims her position emanates from. She needs to research their position more thoroughly on abortion before she uses it as part of her cmapaign strategy, lol!

I see no record of Tark's so called anti-gun positions anywhere 'cept by you. Show me any past evidence where he has voted anti-gun or has railed against the 2nd Amendment in the past. Hey I'm easy but remember JR's dictum.......

No More RINOS!

I linked the evidence.

Show me any past evidence where he has voted anti-gun

He's never won an election, so he's never voted on anything.

or has railed against the 2nd Amendment in the past.

"Mr. Tarkanian has been a strong supporter of the Brady Law, and supports passage of a Federal Assult Weapons Ban." - from Tark's Brady Campaign endorsement.

Lowden is on record as being pro-choice as late as '93.

Danny Tarkanian donated money to liberal Democrat Rep. Shelley Berkley in 1998:

Face the truth whatisthetruth. Neither Lowden nor Tarkanian are perfect, but either would be a good Senator and obviously a vast improvement over Harry Reid. Stop your name-calling and denunciations of Sue Lowden. She's on our side. It's fine to publish facts about each candidate's record but stop campaigning for Harry Reid.

You showed me that link already, I want to see evidence where Tark accepted that endorsement or agreed with any of the Brady campaign’s positions. Your evidence so far to paint Tark as anti-gun is weak. And your other link doesn’t even work. Nobody’s looking for the perfect candidate, but we certainly don’t need or want any more nauseating Kay Bailey Hutchinson’s in the Senate.

I've shown you the evidence and you're still in denial. Not much more I can do there. You'll believe whatever you want.

The link to Tarkanian's donation to Shelley Berkley works for me. Just another fact that you're planning to ignore?

TARKANIAN, DANNY FRESNO,CA 93720 ATTORNEY 8/11/98 $950 Berkley, Shelley (D)

http://www.opensecrets.org/indivs/search.php?name=Tarkanian&state=CA&zip=&employ=&cand=&all=Y&sort=N&capcode=mgfdj&submit=Submit

Nobody’s looking for the perfect candidate,

Good thing, because neither Tarkanian nor Lowden are perfect. We're on the same side here, trying to beat Harry Reid, publish facts so people can make a decision on who to support in the primary, not tear down imperfect conservatives.

Sorry if I've been extra strident - I'm sure you are well-intentioned, and I know Danny Tarkanian has been claiming he's the true conservative.

I think both Tarkanian and Lowden are conservatives and I'd be happy to support either in the general.

I’m in Ohio but either Tarkanian or Lowden would be light years better than Dinjy Harry and send another strong message. Eliminate the ‘rat socialist now and continue to upgrade to a stronger Conservative in next election.

I don't consider you extra strident, on the contrary I welcome a good impassioned debate, that's why I pinged you, knowledge is power. If you have anything to make me skeptical of his conservative credentials I'm open to it but so far your evidence is not very convincing for me.

I'm already deeply skeptical of RINO Lowden's claim to be this strong conservative, she obviously was for the Bailouts, and she's pro-choice, that's enough to turn me off against her as conservative, moderate maybe, conservative not likely, if a moderate is good enough for you so be it, it's not good enough for me in this race when there still might be better options.

We need to vet these folks thoroughly before backing any of them in our haste to get rid of Reid. Anybody can say anything, Reid says he's pro-life but we certainly see what a joke that is.

Lowden has the money, Tark doesn't so the GOP seems to like her chances more than Tark, but that ain't saying much. What's even more troubling is the rise of this Tea Party candidate there, so I guess there's a percentage of conservative folk there who don't think much of Tark or Lowden.
