If you don’t believe it you can drop by Baltimore Ravens training camp sometime this summer and ask Michael Oher in person. Of COURSE it’s true!
Like the mother on drugs, in the projects, not taking care of her responsibilities.
I guess they didn’t mention that.
They’re challenging a true story, enough said.
If the man told them himself, he would be a sell-out, Uncle Tom, hating on his people! Thinking he’s better, talking down to them, doesn’t know his roots, slanders every black since creation, shames his black family by not staying homeless, picking up drugs, doing jail time, not staying around the hood.
Then some would ask for handouts for restitution, you know, it’s not ‘fair’ he has (earned), so much.
Has sharpton commented yet?
I’m in Pennsylvania. Every summer busloads of inner city New York kids come to our beautiful countryside to stay for part of their school vacation with white families. The program is the Fresh Air Fund.
We have been hosts for over ten years.
One friend up here adopted her Fresh Air Fund boy,(African-American child), raised him with her three sons, supported him throughout his HS years as a local star basketball player. He then went to Penn State on a full scholarship and later on went on to a professional basketball career.
So, yes, it does happen. All over our fair and wonderful land.
One of the most telling moments in the film, for me, was after Michael “Big Mike” had lived with the Tuohys for a while, but Sandra Bullock/Leigh Ann Tuohy SENSED that he was uncomfortable with something. She looked him in the eye and tenderly asked him if there was ANYTHING he didn’t like. His reply: “I don’t like being called Big Mike.” And from that moment on, he was MICHAEL to everyone in the family.
Another great moment was when she went down into the ghetto and found Michael’s mother, and attempted to relate to her and give her some comfort........even though, at one point, his mother broke down and cried when she confessed that she really didn’t know for sure who Michael’s father was!
My SIL (evil white woman) legally adopted 3 black and biracial children that she fostered from the time they were 2 weeks old. She got all three at the same time. She was in her early 50s at the time, the kids are now all 10 years old.
BTW, all three were crack babies. One is autistic and the other two average/normal.
She and husband have never taken any crap from white or black people on it. Though it’s been offered. Everyone in the family (all us white folks) have been quite supportive.
No one else wanted the kids. Was that condescending of her to adopt them? It’s hard to imagine the hell their lives would be now if she had not taken them.
If the theme is about "Christian love," I think the more compelling story and example is what just about any white person would experience if they showed up in virtually any African-American church anywhere in the country (okay. . maybe not Rev. Wright's church). It just seems, it would be good to explore some of those themes rather than these Gary Coleman retreads. . .okay. .okay. . .whites can love blacks and treat them nice. . .I get it. .I get it. . .I'm not saying the reaction is a correct one. . I'm just saying. . I understand.
That is heartbreaking.
“Some called it patronizing and contrived to think that a white family would be so altruistic. Many in the black viewing audience believe that...”
I can name three white families who live within a block of me that have black foster kids. Not surprisingly, they are all active Christians.
Can’t wait to see a heart-rending biopic about a rich Black family raising a poor white kid.....
Yes it was. He was a child we loved. We were the ones who walked the floors with him when he screamed at night and we were the ones he knew and trusted to be there when he wanted or needed something.
Obama: He be raised up white. Momma, grandparents.
He turn out sorta okay. Leastwise he ain’t in prison!!
Mr. Fobbs, I read your other column about “Precious”. It is right on the money!
Welcome to Free Republic!

.... while sitting beside here, holding her hands. The most Christian moment I’ve ever seen on film.
of course there are white families that have done benevolent acts of kindness. . .it just seems there is a history with Hollywood of portraying blacks as being able to do better if they could be given a “white” upbringing. Does Gary Coleman ring a bell?. . .
You obviously haven’t seen the movie...why make an empty comment that plays out the typical liberal meme that its all about race? And to trivialize it further, Gary Coleman? See the movie and think like a human.
The couple wanted very much to adopt the boy as they and their daughter and natural born son loved and adored him. As in your case, they were the only parents the boy knew, he called them mommy and daddy and referred to his "sissy" and "big brother" as his siblings.
Sure enough, after being turned down for the adoption, the couple were told to be prepared to turn him over to a "more appropriate family to his 'heritage,'" at age 5!
As much as it tore the hearts out of the family having this son torn away from them, my grandson was heartbroken losing his little buddy.
I had heard that situations like this existed but never new of one first hand as I learned in this case.
The libs are perfectly happy allowing children to languish in foster care families who never desire to adopt them, never quite bonding with the little ones and to place them in other families who care for them, love them and desire to offer them their home but are they good enough, heavens no, their skin isn't the right color.
What is going on is evil, pure evil. Talk about racism, if this isn't, what is.
It’s “Whitedevil”...one word....get it straight will you.
What bothered me about Sandra Bullock(who has proved herself to be an excellent actress) was that she originally said that she didn’t think she could play the part of Leigh Ann Tuohy because she didn’t know if she would be able to portray her for what she was: A committed Christian and a Republican. Was it that much of a stretch(and a departure from Hollywood liberalism)for Ms. Bullock to assume the role of a woman with integrity and values? After all, she is an ACTRESS!
Or in reality, was Ms. Bullock afraid of a backlash from the Hollywood lefties whom she works with.?
When I was a child, Mr. Smith told me these stories himself. My Great Uncle was in the same rest home with Mark Smith's. I thank God my grandfather introduced me to him because anyone who throws the race card at me gets introduced to him, also. I hope you can also use this slave's testimony to promote better relations amongst the races while educating our next generation.
