Susan Page highlighted the contrasts between Romney, the choice of the Republican establishment, and Sarah Palin, favored by conservatives and anti-Washington activists such as those found in the Tea Party movement:

Didn't Romney get 3x more votes than Palin at CPAC, a conservative gathering? Not only did the CPAC people pick two losers (Ron Paul and Romney), but Palin was an afterthought. I know some people love Palin, but her lack of support is eliminating her frontrunner chances.

Nice try, but 75% of CPAC attendees didn’t even bother to vote in the straw poll, perhaps because of the Ronulan kids who showed up just to dominate the poll for their guy.

The straw poll is not scientific; the public opinion polls conducted by Rasmussen, etc. are. Mitt’s narrow lead in the Gallup poll was less than the survey’s margin of error, which means it was a statistical tie between Palin and Romney.

CPAC becomes more establishment Republican every year, despite the barnburner speeches by Rubio and Glenn Beck.
