BIG LAKE -- At one of the warmest Iron Dog starts in race history, drivers unzipped jacket vents and got ready for a spring-like day on the trail Sunday.

"It's going to be a warm, wet ride," said Louis Miller III, patriarch of the father-son team from Anchorage.

The race's most famous fan, former Gov. Sarah Palin, didn't make an appearance Sunday, but husband Todd Palin and his partner Scott Davis left the starting chute on their Arctic Cat Sno Pros without a hitch.

Todd Palin and Scott Davis have dropped out of the Iron Dog 2010 due to an injury suffered by Davis 30 miles out.

Injury forces Davis-Palin team to drop out of Iron Dog Correction to the previous post: it was at 30 miles past the checkpoint at Rainy Pass.

I know they're disappointed but they made a wise decision.
