Perhaps this is true, but then again, only God knows that. Please don't pretend to know what God knows. Remember that ALL have sinned, so even the smallest sin makes a person worthy of Hell and Hell is WAY worse than any calamity imaginable in this life. No one is worthy of the breath they breath. And furthermore, how do you explain the Christians in N.O. who suffered because of the earthquake? God brings pain to the Christian as well as the Hedonist.
I did explain it. Both judgment of lost sinners and chastisement for repentance and refinement are Biblical. The former can work to bring repentance, though it can also be the terminus of impenitence, while the latter is to work repentance, or refinement. Which class our suffering are for will be revealed as we seek God in the light of His word, and by faith and obedience to Him and will work it out for good. I need to do better at that.
Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted...Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.
(Psalms 107:17,19)
But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.
(2 Chronicles 36:16)
But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. (Romans 2:2)
For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil. (Proverbs 1:29-33)
But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
(1 Corinthians 11:32)
Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word. (Psalms 119:67)
If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. (Hebrews 12:7-8,11)
Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: (1 Peter 1:6-7)
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. (1 Peter 5:10)
