Drug Cartels Supply Pot Dispensaries

Medical marijuana may be legal in some states but do we want the Mexican drug cartels supplying them?

Jeff Sweetin, Special Agent In Charge of the U. S. Drug Enforcement Agency in Colorado, says that in his state "a large percentage of the pot consumed by medical marijuana patients 'absolutely' comes from Mexico" as reported by Tyler Lopez and Alan Gathright for KMGH:

"These are real organized crime groups. * * * The Mexican cartels are here. And they've been brought here to provide marijuana to medical marijuana dispensaries because they believe that that is a legitimate market," Sweetin said.

And in Los Angeles, CA, city officials "cannot even say how many pot storefronts are operating inside their city and who is supplying the drugs to those retailers, whether organized crime, gangs, illegal California growers or other sources" as reported by Patrick Range McDonald and Christine Pelisek for LA Weekly:

[West Hollywood Councilman John] Duran concedes a darker truth, saying, "We know that the collectives are not able to get all their marijuana from California, and some are coming from drug cartels, and the pesticides are highly toxic to AIDS patients." * * * Now cops are tracking increases in illegal "grow" operations and related electricity theft and arrests of gang members working with the Mexican Mafia to provide pot to storefronts. * * * The cops worry that the stores are giving a new toehold to organized crime here, citing busts like the one near the Northridge Mall, where a home had been gutted by associates of the vicious 18th Street and Florencia 13 Latino gangs to grow 294 plants for the Mexican Mafia and supply it to medical pot clinics.

Ya, and even if a fella wanted to get into his own business so he could supply the dispensaries, the Mexicans are not going to let him.

I don’t have major issues with legal marijuana but I’m also a realist who never believed it would end the violence on the border.

American citizens would grow their own if it was legal.

There are far too many reasons for this than I can list.

But I can tell you that it's not because a plant anyone can grow in their backyard is inherently “evil”.

Before the tax stamp lie of 1937, hemp was sold by American farmers in bulk. Yes, including the “sweet hemp” tops at a higher price.

Over 50 registered hemp-based medicines were produced by drug makers such as Merck/Bristol and sold at your local pharmacy. Many of these preparations would make “medical marijuana” look like basil. There has never been a single case of a person harmed by a cannabis-based preparation.

This was from a time when most drugs were natural and there was less incentive to create(more profitable) synthetic derivatives.

If you think that medical marijuana is the same as legalized drugs, you are the one who has been smoking.

No matter what a state does it is still a federal crime to grow, possess, or use. As long as this is true, criminals are going to be attracted to the business due to the very high profits that can be made with very little work, only the risk of prosecution.

The well armed Mexican cartels are growing the dope on plantations in our own national forests and parks, they don’t need to bring it from Mexico.

There would be no need for pesticides, smuggling or giving money to criminals if people could grow all plants on their own. Not just government approved ones.

When legal, they would have freedom to choose exactly how their plants are prepared. Either by growing themselves or purchasing from a legal business. The best dispensaries test and certify their plants as organic. It's the free market at work.

Government should have no damn say in what plants you grow for your personal use. The current guilty until proven innocent policy is against the word of God and it's no wonder we have lost so many freedoms because of it. Next time the IRS combs through your personal life or emergency cash is taken from you until you can prove it's NOT illegal, thank the drug warriors.

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. Genesis 1:29

I'm a *close* friend of a smoker that managed a 50-person project collaborated across 5 states. The venture was new and unprecedented but it was still one of the smoothest projects in company history. All milestones easily met and not a single screw up. hehe

Most smokers aren't like the "stoners" featured in comedy movies. Illegality forces only the stupid to be open about it so it seems that way.

So the “[West Hollywood Councilman John] Duran” was talking through his a$$? If so, not too surprising.

How can anyone counter such an intelligent and witty statement like that?

Did you ever learn the basics of punctuation in 6th grade?
