The Department of Homeland Security has many roles. Two of its most important are coordinating the 22 federal agencies that make up the department ensuring coordination and cooperation and of course terrorism prevention.
According to Richard L. Skinner, the Inspector General charged with monitoring the Department of Homeland Security, the National Operations Center of the DHS is unable to do its job, and the DHS spends too much time on disaster management and not enough about terrorism prevention
Skinner reports that the National Operations Center, in fact, functions largely in name only, and current operations apparently have diminished its ability to respond to terrorist threats.

Let’s see now, whose genius idea was it to create this dysfunctional federal behemoth anyway?
“...DHS spends too much time on disaster management and not enough about terrorism prevention”
I thought it was ALL disaster management now....as in man-caused disaster, etc...
Idiots!
The system worked I tell ya, it worked!
Don’t tell the Bushbots, but it was created on November 25, 2002 under guess what genius.
It only employs 225,000 freeloaders.
Keep in mind, Americans look at the undie bomber with fear and trepidation, and demand justice. Ohaha/Incompetano, Holder, Emanuel, Axelrod, Soros and that bunch, look at the bomber with kindness and understanding, b/c he was out to "get" those evil Americans.
No more proof is needed than Obama/Incompetano's profiling conservative Americans as rightwing extremists. On April 7, 2009, their hatred of Americans sprang full force as DHS' Office of Intelligence and Analysis sent out a nationwide alert to US L/E to act against "evil" conservatives. DHS identified rightwing extremists as a "danger" and defined rightwing extremists in a footnote, as follows.
EXCERPT--- DHS' Office of Intelligence and Analysis nationwide alert to US L/E. Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.
DHS later said that the report was not an attempt to squash First Amendment Rights for conservatives----only "hate groups"---- but, there was NO attempt to exempt anyone from these broad generalizations. Obama/Incompetano's report paints EVERY ASPECT OF AMERICAN CONSERVATISM as "suspect."
This is indicative of a very disturbing government mindset. Obama/Incompetano's documented hatred of Americans, and their orders to L/E to surveil and supress Americans......contrasts sharply with their kid glove handling of terrorists bent on violence and destruction.
Mr. Skinner will soon be out of a job.
First, I directed that we take immediate steps to ensure the safety of the traveling public. We made sure that all flights still in the air were secure and could land safely. We immediately enhanced screening and security procedures for all flights, domestic and international. We added Federal Air Marshals to flights entering and leaving the United States. And we are working closely in this country federal, state and local law enforcement, with our international partners.
16 words. Didn't the dems create a firestorm about 16 words Bush said? Bush was telling the truth. Not so sure about Obama. Someone needs to get the truth from the pilots.
Dept. Homeland Security Inspector General Says The Department is Unable to do Its Job
The Department of Homeland Security has many roles. Two of its most important are coordinating the 22 federal agencies that make up the department ensuring coordination and cooperation and of course terrorism prevention.
Of course its unable to do its job as it has more than 22 federal agencies to watch over. Go to the DHS website, www.DHS.gov, and gander at all the agencies and departments it covers. Its a HUGH cluster-(blank). And having a moron in charge doesn't help.
But this is what the democrats wanted. They hounded Dubya until he finally caved and established this monstrosity. But the RATS wanted it for one reason, not security - more union workers and rat voters - but Bush held out on that.
In any case it should be dismantled brick by brick.
Well, that is an interesting proposition to be sure (giggle).
Thanks for the ping - interesting stuff...
Oh come on - Bush didn't set it up to keep an eye on icebergs to save us from the "global warming" scam.
Oh come on - Bush didn't set up DHS to keep an eye on icebergs to save us from the "global warming" scam. That takes a brain dead democrat.
Good catch.
I would like to know exactly what Obama meant by those 16 words. What actions were taken? Do the pilots agree that procedures were sufficient to secure airborne flights?
Seems to me that knowing an incident happened on another flight is very important information. If something squirrelly is happening, or happens, on a flight you are piloting, I would think your evaluation of it and how to respond would be different if you knew an incident had just occurred elsewhere in the system.
What steps, BO, did the “system” take to ensure that “all flights still in the air were secure and could land safely”? And how does taking such steps jive with your initial view that the undiebomber was an “isolated extremist”?
In his first statement addressing the events on Christmas Day Obama said (and I quote):
First, I directed that we take immediate steps to ensure the safety of the traveling public. We made sure that all flights still in the air were secure and could land safely. We immediately enhanced screening and security procedures for all flights, domestic and international. We added Federal Air Marshals to flights entering and leaving the United States. And we are working closely in this country federal, state and local law enforcement, with our international partners.
Oh really?
Hat Tip to FightinJag for posting this article:
Pilot furious at U.S. for silence on bomb - CNN.com
By Steve Danyluk, Special to CNN
January 5, 2010 9:44 a.m. EST
Editor's note: Steve Danyluk is an international first officer for a major U.S. airline and president of The Independence Fund, a nonprofit that supports troops wounded in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
(CNN) -- Following the attempt to bomb a passenger jet on Christmas Day, President Obama said that "once the suspect attempted to take down Flight 253, it's clear Homeland Security and Aviation Security took all appropriate actions."
I am a commercial airline pilot who was deep over the Atlantic flying from St. Kitts and Nevis for nearly six hours on Christmas Day following the attempted bombing on Flight 253.
I only learned about the incident after landing when I looked at the CNN Web site on my iPhone. I'm justifiably furious that I was not notified while airborne.
(Excerpt)
It does not sound as if Mr. Danyluk is lying. Why would he tell a lie which could be easily disproven destroying any credibility he has among his peers and colleagues?
Napolitano seems rather proud of herself regardless of whether or not the system worked:
NAPOLITANO: What we are focused on is making sure that the air environment remains safe, that people are confident when they travel. And one thing I'd like to point out is that the system worked. Everybody played an important role here. The passengers and crew of the flight took appropriate action. Within literally an hour to 90 minutes of the incident occurring, all 128 flights in the air had been notified to take some special measures in light of what had occurred on the Northwest Airlines flight. We instituted new measures on the ground and at screening areas, both here in the United States and in Europe, where this flight originated.
90 minutes. What can happen in 90 minutes? Alot.
Lets look at what happened within 90 minutes of the first plane crashing into the WTC on 9/11. (make that 85)
8:45 a.m.: A hijacked passenger jet, American Airlines Flight 11 out of Boston, Massachusetts, crashes into the north tower of the World Trade Center, tearing a gaping hole in the building and setting it afire.
9:03 a.m.: A second hijacked airliner, United Airlines Flight 175 from Boston, crashes into the south tower of the World Trade Center and explodes. Both buildings are burning.
9:17 a.m.: The Federal Aviation Administration shuts down all New York City area airports.
9:21 a.m.: The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey orders all bridges and tunnels in the New York area closed.
9:30 a.m.: President Bush, speaking in Sarasota, Florida, says the country has suffered an apparent terrorist attack.
9:40 a.m.: The FAA halts all flight operations at U.S. airports, the first time in U.S. history that air traffic nationwide has been halted.
9:43 a.m.: American Airlines Flight 77 crashes into the Pentagon, sending up a huge plume of smoke. Evacuation begins immediately.
10:10 a.m.: United Airlines Flight 93, also hijacked, crashes in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, southeast of Pittsburgh.
Highlights:
1. NYC airports were shut down within 32 minutes
2. The Port Authority was shut down in 36 minutes
3. All Flight operations were halted within 55 minutes
So even though Obama mislead us about immediate actions and Janet Napolitano was patting herself on the back for our reactions after the incident (still a talking point), the simple truth is this:
As unprepared as this nation was for what was to happen on 9/11, our response beats the keystone cops response on Christmas Day. That is something I will gladly blame on Bush. J
I would imagine the administration is not willing to come forth details of the days following the attempted bombing of Flight 253. They were more concerned with blaming the CIA and Bush. The GOP and anyone else worried about our safety are fools NOT to question the actions of the administration during Obama's 3 Lost Days.
No one is asking the questions.
