Young people are least likely to need health insurance because we tend to be healthier than the remaining population. With good reason, we often choose to go uninsured. While young adults constitute 18 percent of the adult population, we make up 28 percent of the uninsured adult population (according to a study by John Holahan and Genivieve M. Kenney of the Urban Institute). By imposing an "individual mandate," the current health care bill will require that we purchase health insurance or face a fine proportional to our income.
Many of us may prefer the fine over health insurance because of how unaffordable health insurance will be under Obamacare.

The democrats need to force younger Americans into buying health care so their money can be siphoned off to pay for the elderly. I'm sure young Americans don't mind paying for the health care of others...it's the democrat (party) way.
It is going to be quite an education for that segment of the Obama-bots who actually work and produce.

Life is hard. life is harder if you are stupid. Some stupid Obama voters are about to get hit in the pocket book with reality.
Well, I appreciate any one that can get on our side and all, but the rationale the author is using is that they, they young and healthy, will be forced to subsidize the health care of the sick elderly.
They didn’t think about this when the ‘public option’ would have forced the middle class to pay for their insurance, did they? In many ways, that’s still happening. They will receive subsidies in purchasing their health insurance based on their income. I don’t see them complaining about that, though.
One more thing, people older than them subsidize them in other ways. How do they think they got their public school education? No one without children or who’s children have grown is exempt from paying school taxes, are they? I don’t see the author complaining about this.
Sure, these beatniks want Socialism, but they want someone else to pay the bill. That’s the problem here. If you are going to pretend to be against Socialism, at least be consistent.

You are so right... however I have some pity on the younger ones since the leftist have indoctrinated them in schools and have fed lies and deception to trusting young minds.
We conservatives need to rescue the ones who would be enlightened by the real truth and knowledge. Restore the Republic with both Biblical and Constitutional principles-—

I don’t appreciate having to pay for the stupidity of others. I don’t have many friends my age because most of them deserve to boil slowly over a vat full of molten lead.
Sometime in 2010, the average ObamaBot Jr is going to wakeup and say “Hey, where’s my free healthcare!? What’s this health insurance bill?! This isn’t what I wanted!!”
