A time for justice

Former border patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean are seeking a new trial, in which all the evidence will finally be heard.

I believe that if all the facts come to light, they will be proven innocent. While their case made national headlines, several others were "forgotton" by the media. A case in point: In 2000, border agent David Sipe was accused of violating the civil rights of an illegal alien human smuggler while arresting him. Agent Sipe spent seven years in federal prison before winning a new trial, in which all evidence was admitted, proving his innocence.

It is also time for justice for two American soldiers. Army Ranger Lt. Michael Behenna was sentenced to 25 years in prison for killing a known al-Qaida operative in Iraq. Lt. Larry Hutchins, serving in Iraq, shot a suspected insurgent after his platoon was ambushed; he is serving 15 years in Leavenworth. Yet Laith Al-Khazali, leading Iranian insurgents who attacked and killed five American soldiers, was recently released from U.S. custody to "foster reconciliation" between insurgents and the Iraqi government.

A complete travesty of justice will be committed against the American people when Khalid Sheik Mohammed, mastermind of 9/11, and four al-Qaida co-conspirators will be tried in a civilian court in New York City. Because it will be held on U.S. soil, they will receive all the rights of U.S. citizens. Mohammed will receive a three-attorney defense team. Volunteer lawyers from the ACLU and National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers will assist the team. This is absurd because terrorists who commit acts of war against the United States are not entitled to the protection of the Geneva Convention or the U.S. Constitution.

For national security reasons, enemy combatants normally face military tribunals. When the 1993 World Trade Center bombers were tried in civilian court, the prosecution was forced to turn over classified information. The same could happen now, and allow terrorists to seize sensitive U.S. information.

How many Americans will pay with their lives when intelligence secrets and methods will be forcibly disclosed to al-Qaida? How many people in foreign nations who have cooperated with us on the war on terror will be endangered when their identities are revealed to al-Qaida? How many jihadists will be inspired when Mohammed speaks out in Manhattan?

It is a clear and present danger to all Americans and morally offensive to give accused war criminals constitutional rights. It is also unjust to give the mastermind of 9/11 a free defense team. This is a privilege denied to our border agents and soldiers who risk their lives for us every day.

The 9/11 terrorists were found guilty by a military court. It should stand.

“”Why does the government favor terrorists over patriots?””

I would say it’s because THIS GOVERNMENT needs their help in destroying what’s left of our country!

“Former border patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean are seeking a new trial, in which all the evidence will finally be heard.”

What is “all the evidence”?
