More seriously, why is it that men so frequently undergo surgery like that, unless it is absolutely necessary?

The comments I hear most is...I just want that cancer stuff out of my body.

I was diagnosed over a year ago, and will not undergo surgery, unless it is the last resort. But I am keeping a watchful eye.
