Post your health care letters to your Senators here!

November 20, 2009

Dear Senator Bayh,

I tried to call your Washington and Indianapolis offices, but the voice mail boxes were full. I am writing this email to you to plead with you not to vote to bring this health care bill up for senate vote.

NOTE: A vote for it now IS a vote to allow it to eventually pass because, as you know, it is quite possible you can vote against its final version knowing full-well that there will be enough votes for it's final passage because the vote requirements are fewer. There are many reasons why you should NOT pass this bill. Here are a few.

-It forces Americans to pay for abortions.

-It does not effectively lower costs.

-It is VERY costly.

-It does not encourage competition, but stifles it.

-It INCREASES the size of government

-It INCREASES our ballooning federal deficit.

-It imposes a greater tax on married couples by imposing a tax on individuals who make $200,000 annually but hitting married couples making just $50,000 more

-It puts the burden on private insurance companies, thus increasing costs, and pushing America to a public plan.

-It makes more people dependent on the government.

-It does not effectively address tort reform.

-There has been no-where nearly enough time to read, much less understand this bill. In no way should anyone vote for this without a FULL and complete understanding about it.

-It gives special consideration to states such as Senator Landrieu's state of Louisiana for national disasters having occurred within the past 7 years (See SEC. 2006. SPECIAL ADJUSTMENT TO FMAP DETERMINATION FOR CERTAIN STATES RECOVERING FROM A MAJOR DISASTER) I find this “payoff” reprehensible! Is this really how this Senate should be run?

I have a letter from you stating that ANY health care bill must not provide for abortions. I applaud you for standing up for what is right. However this bill provides for abortions. Section 1303(a)(2)(C) describes the process in which the Health Benefits Commissioner is to assess the monthly premiums that will be used to pay for elective abortions under the government-run health plan and for those who are given an affordability credit to purchase insurance coverage that includes abortion through the Exchange.

Thank you in advance for reading this letter and for doing what you know is right and NOT voting to allow this bill to pass in any form.

I’ve sent several letters and left many voice mails for Bill Nelson (Idiot, Florida) but he’s made up his mind that he answers to Hairy Reed, not his constituents.

Nelson may actually not be in Reid’s camp afterall. Looks like he may join Lieberman in filibustering it.

Mary Landrieu’s voice mail was full as well. I will try again today. I called one of her offices in Louisiana and voiced my disapproval of the bill. Some young many questioned me asking well you want the government to get out of Medicare and Medicaid as well (I am sure he had a look of disdain on his face). I said the government has proved to me and the American public they can’t run anything efficiently so why should I entrust my health to them. I said just forward my message to Ms. Landrieu to vote NO on government run health care. He backed off and thanked me for calling. They think their constituents are so stupid.

Here’s my letter to Webb. It won’t do any good but I have at least tried.

**********************

Dear Senator Webb-
I write to you to urge you in the strongest possible terms to vote against the health care reform bill currently before the senate. I am quite sure that you will ignore the will of the people you represent and vote for this abomination of a bill. This bill will destroy our country from the inside out. It won’t result in lower costs or better access. It WILL result in more government intrusion in areas that are not constitutional.

Please understand that if you vote for this horrible bill, I will do everything in my power to make sure you are not reelected. I will give up my time, my money and my efforts to help anyone who runs against you in the primaries. That failing, I will do the same for the general election.

You are a representative of the people of Virginia - not a representative of the democrat ‘leadership’ in Washington.
I urge you to remember that as you vote.

With all due respect,
iceskater

Here’s my letter to Sen. Cardin:

Senator Cardin,

I live in ******, MD as does my wife. We are both registered voters and politically active.

I ask you to please vote NO on tomorrow’s vote to “discuss” the Senate version of the Health Care bill. My understanding is that the bill contains many unwise new taxes, penalizes people that don’t have health care with a fine, and limits freedoms in many, many ways, including giving the Government my private health care information.

Most fundamentally, the bill is an unconstitutional power grab by one section of Congress.

I monitor your voting record (and Sen. Mikulski’s) and I will not forget your vote on this.

Please honor the oath you gave to protect the Constitution and vote NO in tomorrow evening’s vote.

Respectfully,

Sauropod

I also spoke with Mikulski’s Baltimore office.

Everyone, please remain polite, but firm with your messages.

To: trackman; All

I called Senator Bayh’s office in D.C. and Indy and both went to voice-mail-boxes that were full. So there is no way to get ahold of Senator Bayh today. At least I haven’t found anyway to talk to a real person.

I did send a long e-mail explaining why Senator Bayh should vote “NO”. It was not as long and researched as your e-mail, trackman. Very good letter, trackman.

I did mention in my e-mail that this democrat economy is seeing jobs slip away at a alarming rate, also mentioning that the democrats have held Congress for 3 years now.

I did get ahold of Senator Lugar’s office and the fellow told me that Senator Lugar will be voting “NO”.

Ok, here’s my letter to Mikulski:

Senator Mikulski,

I live in ******, MD as does my wife. We are both registered voters and politically active.

I ask you to please vote NO on tomorrow’s vote to “discuss” the Senate version of the Health Care bill. My understanding is that the bill contains many unwise new taxes, penalizes people that don’t have health care with a fine, and limits freedoms in many, many ways, including giving the Government my private health care information.

Passing this bill will impose a huge new cost that our Country cannot afford.

Most fundamentally, the bill is an unconstitutional power grab by one section of Congress.

I’m sure you noticed the 2 million people that visited DC on September 12th. There are many more of us that didn’t/couldn’t go.

I monitor your voting record (and Sen. Cardin’s) and I will not forget your vote on this. I know you are up for reelection in 2010. If you vote “yes” tomorrow, I will use my time, my money, my contacts, and any other resources at my disposal to unseat you in the Maryland Primary. Failing that, I will do the same in the General Election next November.

Please honor the oath you gave to protect the Constitution and vote NO in tomorrow evening’s vote.

Respectfully,

Sauropod

Normally, I would not even try persuading these 2, but just got a call in to Babs last night. I think even if we can’t flip the votes we need to let them know how much we are against this.

I tried a different kind of tact and I don’t know if it wa advisable, but I was just trying something different.

I told Mikulski’s clerk that I was an indie and that she wa the first person that I voted for in this state.

True. I am still unaffiliated and I was a political moron 20 years ago when I voted for her.

I told her that the bill is wildly unpopular with the Maryland taxpayer in the street and just because Harry Reid wants to lose his seat through this legislation that she need not jump off the proverbial electorate cliff, as well.

This is true, too.

I have heard that Governor Ehrlich may be more interested in a US Senate seat than another run at Owe’Malley and that voting on this bill will expose her to being defeated by a populist candidate.

This is also true.

I told her that I would miss her leadership in the US Senate.

I lied.

Don’t forget faxes! I’ve heard that they are just deleting their e-mails at this point. It’s a lot harder to ignore a fax.

I gave them my name.

They had my phone via caller ID.

And, in retrospect, I’m certain they have a database featuring all the pro-life letters that I have sent.

Hind sight is 20/20.

Some bullet points that you all are free to use (although some points are specific to Virginia):

Dear Senator XXXXX:

The Dean of Harvard’s medical school gives health reform a failing grade and that the changes proposed by Congress will require more draconian measures down the road.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704431804574539581994054014.html

More Americans oppose the health care reform proposals currently under consideration by Congress than are in favor of it, according to recent polls (Quinnipiac, Rasmussen).

Non-partisan Congressional Budget Office says that this bill will be more expensive than doing nothing.

Americans like me want the federal government to stop the out-of-control spending and focus on the economy and jobs. I consider myself to be an Independent voter, but during the recent elections in Virginia, I voted for a straight Republican ticket, because they stand in stark contrast to the irresponsible spending mentality.

Our national debt today is $12 trillion, and our GDP is only $12.5 trillion. Virginia voters like me want Congress to stop the spending!

I am currently unemployed and have been for more than 6 months. We know that as government raises taxes, it raises the cost of doing business, which means that small businesses cannot hire as many new workers. Americans want to know: where are the jobs? So how is raising taxes on the people and small businesses who create jobs going to create jobs?

On your website, you state that “reform must emphatically be reasonable in scope, cost, and impact,” but there’s nothing reasonable about the scope cost or impact of the reforms in this bill, which will create numerous new and unnecessary bureaucracies.

The vast majority of Americans agree that we need health care reform, but it is more important that we take our time and get it right. This Senate bill does not “get it right”.

Scrap this bill and start over with a new one that the majority of Americans can support. After all, this reform will affect every single American.

Mary Landrieu’s voice mail was full as well. I will try again today.
Interesting, I posted at 8:45 this AM as of 3;30 pm phones to all Landrieus offices have been busy. A frined called and she said the same thing. Is Landrieu ignoring me, I wonder?
