When Sarah Palin said Obamas healthcare plan would result in death panels that would see bureaucrats making subjective judgements on life and death, she was furiously howled down by Obama supporters.
So how should we describe the expert panel of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, which decided that patients will be denied a new cancer drug on the NHS under draft guidelines, because it is too expensive?
Charities are outraged people with advanced liver cancer are to be refused life-extending Nexavar. Andrew Dillon, of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence said: The drug does not provide enough benefit to justify its high cost.
Andrew Dillon, the CEO of N.I.C.E., is a career bureaucrat, not a doctor or a scientist. He runs the system that says there is a cap of £30,000 per patient for a quality year of life. If the panel determines that a quality year of life will cost the NHS more than £30,000, you are dead

I read the article and the referenced article.Thank you.
Where was Governor Palin when this howling took place, on OPRAH?
Those howlers will be sobbing when OBAMACARE Becomes law and in effect years down the road. Then they will blame BUSH.
The rationing of health care, already begun with mammograms, when applied to the elderly, using a Marxist social utility theory measuring the rest of their probable lives vs the cost of the care, will result in Utilization Review Panels making decisions that result in death for 100s of 1000s, effectively Death Panels.

“National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence”
I honestly didn’t know this is what the acronym stood for.
They have been doing a more intense “sell job” than” even President Obama could come up with for his program.
Maybe Obama will try for something like the Department of eternal youth.
30 % of the voters in this country would believe it.
Could that acronym be more Orwellian?
I think you are light on your numbers.
There are literally millions of Baby Boomers who are rapidly approaching the red line of 70.
Our generation is screwed and we did it to ourselves.
“Our generation is screwed and we did it to ourselves.”
The definition of Socialism.

NICE head SIR Michael Rawlins doesn’t see why drug companies should deserve any deference.........
A new drug doesn’t just have to work to impress NICE, it has to offer value for money and if it doesn’t, whether it is life-saving or not, Rawlins’ group won’t approve it. With skyrocketing prescription prices bloating America’s health-care system, many experts are now taking a hard look at whether America should embrace NICE’s controversial methods.
.......... and many companies spend twice as much on marketing as R&D. That has got to go. I mean for Christ’s sake, it’s hopeless. (SUCH A *NICE* ARISTOCRAT!!!)
