Here's his story: "On September 6th, 2009, Dan returned to Kandahar, Afghanistan. With less than 36 hours on the ground, his team received their first mission task targeting Taliban operatives. During the mission, Dan activated a land mine and lost both legs, and sustained traumatic internal injuries. Currently he is at the National Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland where he is fighting a new battle. Like any other challenge in his life, Dan will face this one with courage and dedication. Already, friends and family have witnessed Dans unbelievable strength as he begins what will surely be a long and difficult recovery. Despite the challenges ahead, Dan remains positive and exudes his kindness and true appreciation for friends and family, and for life."

Thanks for posting this. My paternal grandmother’s maiden name was Cnossen... I wonder if I might be related to him.

The site also has an on-going blog here. He’s just had another major surgery on September 29. The writer, Leslie, is his sister. She’s left her job in NYC to be with him full-time.
Bethesda gives the following directions to send mail:
To send mail to a hospital inpatient, please include name and hospital unit such as ICU, 5 East, NICU, etc. Mail to: National Naval Medical Center, 8901 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20889-5600.
Lt. Cnossen’s unit is listed as ICU on the donations page, so for now address it as follows:
Patient Lt. Daniel Cnossen
Unit: ICU
National Naval Medical Center
8901 Rockville Pike
Bethesda, MD 20889-5600
You can make donations directly on his web site here. Money is being devoted right now for his mother and sister, both of whom left work, so be with him. It’s important to his recovery.
Thank you for supporting our heroes.

I’m betting this is the same Seal mentioned by Col. North in his column today. I just sent him $100 to help out; it can’t begin to repay his and America’s loss, but it’s great to know we have men like this in our midst, and thy ought to know America will support them if they get hurt in our service.
