Capital Hill Switchboard Illegally Being Used to Push Obamacare? (You won't believe this!!)
E-Mail | September 27, 2009

Posted on 09/27/2009 12:43:10 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Well, this certainly can't be legal, can it? If you call one of the numbers that leads you to the switchboard for Congress, the number you'd call to be put through to your Congressman or Senator's office, you get a short message selling Obama's healthcare snake-oil before being transferred to the switchboard operator.

How can this even be legal? After all, this isn't the Democrat Party hotline we are talking about here. It is the main phone number representing all of Congress, not just Obama and his nationalized healthcare policies. I repeat, this is the phone number for all of Congress, not an activist's number to sell Democrats and their policies.

I just cannot see how this is legal, and even if it is legal it is gauche and not right. Can the message for the Congressional switchboard be used for partisan purposes? I just can't see it being legal.

While it lasts, try it yourself and you'll see. The number is 1-800-828-0498.

Here is the transcript of the message you'll hear:

Thank you for calling your Representative and your Senators.

Please urge them to vote yes on health insurance reform. Because the American people can no longer wait for more choices, lower costs, and coverage we can count on.

After this little message the phone rings once again and is patched through to the switchboard operator.

I have to say, this message is frightening. We can't even call our representatives without being hit over the head by the socialized healthcare message. Not to mention the fact that the message is a bald-faced lie. Obama's plan will not give us "more choices," Obama's plan will not "lower costs," and Obamacare will not give us better coverage.

This is a FREE call paid for by “Families USA” see http://www.familiesusa.org/bushvskids/calling-congress.html and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Families_USA

Give ALL of your friends this number to use, warn them of the propaganda and stay on the line as long as possible, it eats up liberal dollars like mad!

See also, from www.thepatriotsflag.com:
A little Subterfuge from the Left.

A liberal lobbyist has found a new way to try to get the Health Insurance Reform legislation passed. An 800 number is freely distributed over the internet (1-800-828-0498). If you use this to “call your congressman” or “call congress” as is widely distributed by the lobbyist … you will first get a recording that asks you to be sure to ask your Senator or Representative to vote for Health Insurance Reform, and do it before it is too late. Then the phone rings you through to the switchboard operator that connects you to your Senator or Congressman.

Call it … you can “hang up” when it starts to ring through to the switchboard so you don’t have to talk.

-- snip --

The lobbyist doing this is doing it for many liberal causes.

When you do the Google search, you’ll see many of those causes listed. The way these are listed, it makes it look like you are actually calling the Congressional Switchboard … which is actually at 1-202-224-3121.

The message is probably from the organization paying for the phone call. Once the spiel is done, they then transfer the call to the WH switchboard.

This has got to be uber-unconstitutional.
Time for another ‘march’ for sure.

“This is a FREE call paid for by “Families USA””

Bingo! You get a free call to Congress, and they get to give you their own political announcement. Seems fair to me.

No one forces you to call their (free)800 number. You can always call Congress on your dime if you want to avoid it. The congressional non-free numbers are available on the web.

Can we each file a complaint for abuse of taxpayer funds? If so, how?

“Can we each file a complaint for abuse of taxpayer funds? If so, how?”

Read the posts, and do your own research. It ain't “taxpayer funds” that are paying for this free phone call. It's the libs that are paying for it, and propagandizing you in the bargain. Avoid their 800 number and pay for your own danged phone call if you want to avoid their spiel. There is nothing to see here. Move along.

I wondered if this was a trick on conservatives. I wondered if the number was set up to deceive people into thinking that it is what it is not.

However, I have called the number and got the exact response that was claimed. I also ran a search on the number and found that it is indeed the number of the congressional switchboard.

I am therefore officially outraged at this blatant attempt to promote the Democrat agenda! [expletive deleted]

That is bullshit! I called it and they “

“thank you for calling representative and your senator. Please urge them to vote yest on health insurance reform,”.

What kind of crap is this? This number should be non-partisan, especially since there is absolutely no consensus on this issue.

It is supposedly a White House initiative(Executive Branch), as well, and this number is for the Senate(Legislative Branch).

This is not right and I am calling some senators tomorrow to complain.

If anyone has Drudges email, they should let him know.

We don’t care and figured it out anyway. Noise is Noise and making them look foolish, every chance we get is what is important.

“The look of impropriety” can be a powerful political tool as well.
