Obama seems to believe that if he explains his positions slowly and clearly enough, their fundamental logic will inevitably win the day without the need for arm-twisting.

It’s time for Alfred E. Newman to take off the Obama mask.
I just threw up in my mouth a little

Mr. Hiltzik and Times Staff Writer Chuck Philips received the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for their articles exposing corruption in the entertainment industry, particularly in the recorded music business.
Ironic, eh?
He subscribes to the Senator Susan Collins School of Intellectual Debate. Speak s-l-o-w-l-y and your audience will think you're smart
Maybe the LA Times thinks it's time for Dear Leader to send SEIU purple people beaters into those crowds of evil mongering seniors. And maybe even to attack Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh and FOX News.
Oh wait...
The president's coolness in the face of the right wing's relentlessly anti-intellectual assault on his policies has been impressive as a display of character.
This is basically a lead-in to the author's point -- The folks who want to go slowly and actually discuss the merits of the plan are "anti-intellectuals". The proper approach, the more thoughtful approach, is to bring the hammer down, ram it through Congress, and go nuclear if that's what it takes.
I think it's appropriate to point out that it was a hallmark of the fascists that they despised debate -- don't talk about things -- do things! Action! Action! Action! Effeminate intellectuals discuss policy! We implement policy!
He not only took his gloves but he has bloodied the political scenes in America in a Chicago style thuggery that no other President has done it before or even came close to do it.
It is never, "By the laws of a democratic society, our ideas were voted out as being inferior by the electorate. We will try to identify new ideas more in line with what the people want." It is always, "We failed to get our message out. Surely, if we had, you local idiots who are barely capable of signing your own name to vote would have certainly been awed by the power and majesty of the new opressive, limiting, strangling, weighty laws we have in our divine wisdom ordained for you. What a damn pity we have to go through this charade of acting like we care about your opinion every election day in order to get our police state in place where it should be."
He not only took his gloves but he has bloodied the political scenes in America in a Chicago style thuggery that no other President has done it before or even came close to do it.
Hey, Michael, Dear Leader will never be able to speak slowly and cleary enough for us dumb anti-intellectuals to understand him.

Very nice rendition of the Liberal mindset.
Whoa! Great find. Jeez louise, is that guy a piece of work...
I think I got it: Slowly now......The Democrats are in the majority of the House and Senate, and it’s STILL the Republican’s fault.
Interesting considering Couric just whined that O has NOT explained the details on health care and that is why the public is not on board.
Othuggo hasn’t taken the gloves off yet because ... why? ... he hasn’t had his goons machine gun us down in the streets yet? ... he hasn’t had his goons put us into concentration camps yet?
Remember when there would be a post about some *sshole in the news and inevitably someone as a joke would sign up to post something like the following (always misspelled and sometimes 2 months or 2 years after the original post)?
"I am a niegbor of Michael Hiltzik. I am surpised at the comments directed at him by you people. I have know Michael since he was 3 years old. He always keeps his lawn cut neetly and is quite on Sundays. Mike is a fine person and would never say anything that does not reperesent the truth. He has too dogs and a cat."
