Where do AP, ABC, NBC, CNN, and FOX get their DC912 crowd estimates from?

I saw one helicopter circling overhead yesterday. There were no news choppers, just two trucks, FNC and CNN.

Just for grins, I recall at the time of the innauguration, someone in the media spoke with a "crowd expert" and asked how size was estimated. The expert said that you have to know the square footage of the area covered by the crowd, and then you have to calculate that every 3-foot by 3-foot square would hold 6 people, and you just do the math ...

The media guy commented that they had tried to get 6 people to stand within a 3-foot square but that this hadn't worked.

Bottomline: size estimates are used to show what they want to show.

Yep. That’s why, imo, we should be using the 2.5 million figure in DC and 3 million nationwide.

I was just discussing the exact same thing with my father yesterday. You have a huge event in our nations capitol and Fox (the most powerful cable network on earth) could pony up a copter let alone a few decent aerial shots?

Some little pissant local network in Knoxville Tenn. can have a traffic chopper calling the situation daily and Fox can’t dedicate a chopper for this????

Embarrassing.

Oh, and of course in the meantime coming up with real numbers from photos and other sources. Personally, I’d like to see the turnstile counts in the metro yesterday, and compare them to other Septembers and other major rallies.

I know it doesnt seem to make sense, but it is based on statistical measures. for example, when you are standing on a crowd there are always people walking around. While it would be difficult to have six people standing on a square yard of ground, it DOES make more sense when people are meandering around.

Generally speaking, when I look at crowd size, I tend to just compare one crowd to another. For example, how did this compare to an inauguration, or the “million man”march, or the Civil rights march in the sixties.

I do wonder if Homeland Security, FAA, may have discouraged/prevented some flights.....Just a guess.....

There were very clearly 1.5 million protesters in DC. No matter what the biased MSM say. They would not even show themselves in public.

The chopper was probably from the White House sneaking a look.

As an attendee to the protest, I saw no MSM in attendance. They were in hiding; now they are in denial.

Well actually DC is the one city where it's pretty hard to get clearance to fly anything.

The truth is that there were so many people that NO BODY can say it was a failure of any sort. I think the politicians are stunned. I think the new people are stunned. The fact is they can ignore us on the news but they can’t ignore us at the ballot box. I wish Sarah Palin had been invited to speak. There would have been an earth quake in DC.

Not even close to 1.5m. Not even close to 150k. I know everyone's pumped up about this, but we need to be realistic about this or we will be laughed at like we laughed at the claims of the organizers of the million man march. I was there and it was the equivalent of a full large football stadium. Perhaps 70,000.
