I'm pleased that the White House is finally responding to Republican health care ideas instead of pretending they don't exist.[1] But in doing so President Obama should follow his own sound advice and avoid making "wild misrepresentations".[2] Medicare vouchers would give everyone on Medicare the chance to decide for themselves which health plan to use, rather than leave that decision to government bureaucrats. Such proposals are the kind of health care reform that Republicans stand for: market-oriented, patient-centered, and result-driven.
The White House talking points leave the rest of my arguments unanswered. They don't respond to the idea that all individuals should get the same tax benefits received by those who get coverage through their employers; that we must reform our tort laws; and that we should allow Americans to buy insurance across state lines. The White House also fails to respond to the Nyce/Schieber study indicating that wages will fall if the government expands coverage without reducing health care inflation rates.
One last thing: after President Obama's speech tonight, listen for which pundits use the words "false", "scary", and "risky" in describing the proposals I put forward. That's how you'll be able to tell who the White House counted as "allies" worthy of receiving its talking points.

This is exacxtly what Republicans need.
I am ignorant why people in one state can’t buy insurance offered by another state. What is the basis? Is this because each state has passed such a law, of is this because the central government has passed a law prohibiting people in one state from buying from an out-of-state insurere.
For example, here in California, my state passed a law that says I cannot buy a gun in a different state and bring it in to California. I am required to have to have a federally licensed dealer broker that purchase. I understand this is a state law, and that there are states that are not so restricted. That is, the state allows you to purchase a gun out of your home state without any regulation by your state of residence. Never mind the constitutional issue for now, the point is, my state prevents me from buying guns out of state. There is no federal law prohibiting me from doing so.
With cars, there is no state law prohibiting me from buying a car out of state, so long as it meets the highly restrictive Califoria air pollution emissions standards. I can’t buy a car meant for a state with lower pollution standards.
So, why can’t people purhcase insurance across state lines? Is this prohibited by federal law, or by 14th amendment crap, or because each state has prohibited buying out-of-state insurance? I don’t understand.
No question anymore (if there ever was) as to who is leading the opposition to Obama. The ‘Cuda rocks!
