I had the opportunity to speak briefly with President Obama, to welcome him to the Basilica and to share with him that the bishops of the Catholic Church are anxious to support a plan for universal health care, but we will not support a plan that will include a provision for abortion or could open the way to abortions in the future. The President was gracious in the short time we spoke, he listened intently to what I was saying.

My understanding is that "abortion" is NOT in HR 3200.

Only problem is, that the way it is not in it, means that it is funded, since the way it is written is to delineate what is not covered.

Well, that does make me feel a little bit better about the Cardinal’s participation in this funeral.

Sheesh....Obama may have appeared to listen intently but he is the more pro-abortion President we’ve ever had. Although I’m glad the Cardinal said his piece.

It probably was in the Stimulus Bill along with the death panels people missed.

"The Catholic Church is advising the president of the United States of America??"

The Church and its members have every right to try to influence governmental actions and policies. Let's just pray to God that they are successful.

"...the bishops of the Catholic Church are anxious to support a plan for universal health care, but we will not support a plan that will include a provision for abortion or could open the way to abortions in the future."

I'll refrain from saying what I honestly think of the Cardinal's rationalizations re: Kennedy's funeral. I will point out that abortion is far from the only issue that should drive Catholics away from ZeroCare.

I have had it up to beyond here with "Catholics" mewling about how "hearts" must "change" before minds are changed... Abortion is beyond a moral outrage & there's something rotting inside of us which is why it's allowed.

Cardinal O'Malley is failing in his pastoral duties. His flock is sick in their souls & he is dining with the devil.

... and to share with him that the bishops of the Catholic Church are anxious to support a plan for universal health care, ...

Can anyone verify if this statement is true?

Are the bishops of the Roman Catholic Church actually "anxious to support a plan for universal health care" (apparently a plan to be implemented by the Government, since this discussion was directly with Obama)?

Is this the Pope's position?

Given the chance, any minister of any church would offer the President their two cents.

So the cardinal will support socialism as long as abortion is taken out

Death bill = Obamacare. death for babies. death for Grannie. Your healthcare goes to immigrants, you get “nada”.

At one time the politician’s kissed the Cardinal’s ring…..Now it’s the other way around? After witnessing the Kennedy funeral I think the Cardinal did a lot of kissing!!!

By that you mean that anyone is free to answer?

Of course, why would anyone not be free to answer?

The questions are straight forward, and I wish to know if the press is making this up/distorting facts, etc.

Either abortion gets specifically precluded in certain terms or it will be held to be implicitly in.
