Red Flag is underway at Nellis Air Force Base, and will be going until Sept. 5. Las Vegans and tourists alike sometimes get a hell of an air show when Red Flag is going on, but there is something new about Red Flag this year.
For the first time, fighters from the United Arab Emirates will be participating in the combat exercise over the skies of Las Vegas.

In the IMAX movie “Fighter Pilot”, which is about Red Flag, they speak of pilots from US and other NATO countries. But if you watch early in the movie where there are the first scenes of pilots
getting ready for the first day’s activities, you will see one fighter with Israeli Air Force markings, although that is never mentioned.
I wonder if the Israelis are there and, if so, if they are flying with the UAE pilots.
The first day is pretty hairy with all those planes over unfamiliar (and crowded) airspace (my son flew in it a few years ago).
No kidding. Oboma needs a huge "crises" right now to distract from the failed stimulus package, record unemployment numbers, the coming economical crash, failed death care, and the exposing of who his Czars really are.

The article says we’ve been training UAE guys for 8 years. I understand that Red Flag is another kettle of fish, but its not like they used to be mortal enemies or something and we sharply reversed course with BO.

I remember in basic training at Lackland in 1960, I was pulling KP at the Foreign Officers mess hall. A couple of Saudis came through the chow line and I remember thinking that these guys were from the far end of the earth. Little did I know that 20 years hence, I’d be there, serving in the military attache’s office. They’ve been here for decades, folks.
