IRS to enforce lack-of-healthcare penalties - and it could run to several thousand dollars
The Patriot Room ^ | August 10, 2009 | Clyde Middleton

Here it is in a nutshell: We are required - every one of us - to report our health-insurance status each tax filing for the preceding year - I'll make this single caveat: It reads where it may be insurance companies are required to give us something like a W-2 for insurance coverage (the only date mentioned is January 31). And since it all leads to paying taxes, we'll be reporting it with our 1040s. Failure to provide insurance for ourselves and every dependent will result in a tax equal to 2.5% of our AGI (adjusted by a de minimus amount) to a maximum of the national average insurance premium for the periods of time for which no insurance was in place. It is not a "fine" or a "penalty," but a tax that falls under the IRS to collect and enforce non-payment. What is the average premium? Not a single number has been floated. So, $500 a month? Medicare Part B alone runs as high as $300. $500 is cheap - let's use it - that's an additional tax of 2.5% of AGI to a maximum of $6,000 for failure to sign up for Obamacare. Further, we don't get insurance for that tax, so functionally it is a fine except the full weight of the Internal Revenue Service will be involved.

Now, let me back up everything I just wrote.

I’d prefer to just stop filing a return, but you know where that will get you. I don’t believe this, pay or rot in prison.

If there are any liberals out there lurking on this site, for the love of God, wake up! Everything, and I mean everything that Obama proposes results in is fewer choices for the individual and more power for the government.

If you don't make anything, you don't have to file.

This ought to be unconstitutional.

I mean, think about it ... what's next:

The Federal Government compelling -- not merely encouraging or rewarding, but compelling -- certain private behavior choices by means of punitive taxation is something the Founders never would have anticipated, or tolerated if they had.

It is time to end this monstrosity known as the IRS that seeks to control every aspect of our lives. The solution to this increasingly oppressive thug organization has been introduced to each session of Congress since 1999. It's called The Fair Tax Act(HR25/S296). It will replace all federal income taxes with a national sales tax and abolish the IRS. Click on the icons below for more information. Fair Tax ping!

All these socialist bills are unconstitutional. We would not be bound by them even if they were to pass but in the meantime I suggest you look at reply #9.

In my opinion, this would be unconstitutional. There is nothing in the Constitution giving the Federal government the power to mandate any of us to have health insurance. Someone has to sue, though, to get it overturned.

The Fair Tax isn’t going to happen.

What someone needs to do should this health care bill pass is sue the government on the basis that it is unconstitutional for them to require anyone to have health insurance.

Health care insurance should be subject to the same taxes all other income is subject.

The Fair Tax isn’t going to happen.

Tell that to the growing number of cosponsors with each passing session and the growing grass roots volunteer movement.

“”Medicare Part B alone runs as high as $300””

Not true - the premium for Part B is $96.40 per month - can it go up? Sure, but why would it when their plan is to destroy Medicare? Would they continue to deduct it from our social security checks - sure! They can do anything they want.

You have a point. And if nobody makes no money, the govt. won’t either. Funny, how it is they somehow want that. Their motto sure ain’t live and let live.

On the up side I can become a leech on society by running to the Dr for every ache and pain I have

You will be assigned a doctor, no choice of course, and when you run to him/her with every pain and ache you will be told to take a number and wait, maybe for a day, maybe a month, maybe 2,4,6 months, depending on how many other sickos are ahead of you on the doc's priority list.

And if you really do have a pain maybe you will wait until you die from whatever disease or organ failure was causing your aches and pains.

I have read articles written by Canadians saying that it's not an uncommon occurrence up there for people to die while waiting their turn for cancer surgery, heart surgery, or some other critical life-saving medical procedure. I have also read that such deaths while waiting for a surgeon or a medical appliance to become available also occur in the UK, and probably in every other socialist nation that has adopted a similar Marxist socialized medicine scheme.

In some European nations such as the Netherlands I believe the government encourages elderly sick people to take advantage of the government's assisted suicide services and enjoy a pleasant, pain-free escape from their aches and pains. Now isn't that a gracious and generous offer from a benevolent socialist Big Brother government? Coming soon to a nation you once loved before 64 million gullible fools turned it into a Marxist hellhole.
