Columbia Conservative Examiner ^ | August 7, 2009 | Anthony G. Martin

Several vital facts have come to the surface in the past 2 months that give us insight into the real agenda of Barack Obama.

First, Obama is an extremist and not the moderate he portrayed himself as being during the campaign. One has to look beyond his Cabinet choices to the Czars and advisors he has appointed, all of which hold dangerous, radical views concerning human life, social engineering, and politics.

We Americans must be stupid. Has anyone thought of the fact they ALL OF US are pre-old.

Has anyone heard of the golden rule?

One day, each American, if so blessed, will become old. Do we want the euthanasia that the rationing will cause, foistered upon us, too?

While there may be stories of folks being fincially hurt by medical expenses, there aren't zillions of stories of people being refused live-saving care (well, excluding Michelle Obama's hospital working hard to get folks out of their ER to another hospital's...but that's a whole 'nother story). We don't have tons a women dying of breast cancer, folks waiting for months for MRI's....like the other socialized medicine countries.

No, we aren't medical utopia, but that's the false promise they always trot out. Everyone looks flawed against some intellectual utopian vision.

Is this really new? Whenever we’ve had to choose between the lives of the young and the old (e.g., limited lifeboats on the Titanic), we’ve typically chosen to save the young. Similarly in health care, we don’t have unlimited resources, and it does not make sense to ignore cost and pursue every possible avanue of treatment. This is particularly true when a family is asking to spend someone else’s money (e.g., the hospital’s or insurance company’s).

As much as I hate Obama’s health care plan, my problem is not that it takes a cost-benefit approach to care decisions. My problem is that the government is the one making those decisions.

No matter what Obama does, there is a horrific problem that needs to be addressed, and a possible solution.

All over the US there are nursing homes that are stables full of mostly elderly women, many with dementia, living lives of torpor, and despair if they have enough faculties. These homes are often crowded and understaffed, and terribly expensive.

In northern Mexico, there are large numbers of English speaking health care workers, who could provide much better care at much less cost, and far more human contact and stimulation for these wretched souls.

Nursing homes just South of the border could be built to comfortable US standards, but also have landscaping, animal pets if desired, and far more attention to patients as individuals. Healthier, fresher food, more cleanliness, decor and respect.

Already there are some wonderful US retirement communities springing up there, and very popular with those who live there.

The right solution is for people to pay out of their own pocket with no govt. intervention.

Right now, people spend on stuff they want and don’t save for what they need because the govt. will provide it.

If govt. did not back stop people, they would save for what they need and eschew things they want. They would do this “under penalty of no health care” which is a pretty powerful incentive.
