Creed Statement: We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ . . .
Today's focus: One Lord
And now, Israel, what does the Lord, your God, ask of you but to fear the Lord, your God, and follow his ways exactly, to love and serve the Lord, your God, with all your heart and all your soul, to keep the commandments and statutes of the Lord (Deuteronomy 12:12-13).
My friend Jim knows about serving two masters. He's a middle-manager in a large defense-related industry. When his company experienced a series of consolidations and mergers, loosely associated departments absorbed entire divisions. Lines of authority were cut and rearranged. When I was doing Bible correspondence ministry to prisons, here are a few verses I used:
“For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all members of the one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all to drink into one Spirit. [1 Corinthians 12:12-13]
“There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling: One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and in you all.” [Ephesians 4:4-6]
“For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave Himself a ransom for all to be testified in due time.” [1 Timothy 2:3-6]
One prayer, made by our Lord Jesus has yet to be answered:
“And now, O Father;.....I pray for them.....that they may be one, even as we are one.” [John 17:5a & 22b]
