American Embassies being Asked to Sell Dollars?
Market Watch ^ | 2009-Jun-24 | Peter Brimelow

I saw this article and found it rather alarming (particularly, starting around paragraph 7). I was wondering what people think about this. Is the author being overly paranoid, or does it look like it's realistic?

Here's the paragraphs in question:

In its current issue, HSL reports rumors that "Some U.S. embassies worldwide are being advised to purchase massive amounts of local currencies; enough to last them a year. Some embassies are being sent enormous amounts of U.S. cash to purchase currencies from those governments, quietly. But not pound sterling. Inside the State Dept., there is a sense of sadness and foreboding that 'something' is about to happen ... within 180 days, but could be 120-150 days."

Yes, yes, it's paranoid. But paranoids have enemies -- and the Crash of 2008 really did happen.

HSL's suspicion: "Another FDR-style 'bank holiday' of indefinite length, perhaps soon, to let the insiders sort out the bank mess, which (despite their rosy propaganda campaign) is getting more out of their control every day. Insiders want to impose new bank rules. Widespread nationalization could result, already underway. It could also lead to a formal U.S. dollar devaluation, as FDR did by revaluing gold (and then confiscating it)."

Comments? Anyone else hear about embassies being asked to buy local currencies?

Harry Schulz has been spot on up to and through the financial crisis. Like Peter Schiff, however, he was wrong about the dollar not serving as a safe haven for investors- and this hurt his performance greatly in 2008.

They know something is about to happen. They have been given a heads up on it. And far from being sad, they are estactic [sp?]. Minute by minute we are being given into the hands of the u.n. one world government and our soverignty is being given away.

If something were going to go down that soon the safe bet would be to have U.S. dollars on you. The dollar goes a long way to securing help from capitalistic folk who are all too willing to lend a hand for cold, hard cash.

I suppose a flush of local currency would be good for blending in though.

Perhaps Obama’s going to resort to the Emperor’s Last Resort... When all else fails, throw money at the people and for sure they’ll love you.

This was something I knew, but couldn’t reveal yet. Didn’t want to be the one posting it. Another Freeper then wrote “Then why in the hell did you mention it?” Well......

Inside the State Dept., there is a sense of sadness and foreboding

If YOU worked for Hillary Clinton, would you not have a sense of sadness and foreboding?

So, if we should prepare for a bank holiday of indefinite duration, I guess the first thing is to have cash available, since it’s hard to see how checks and credit cards could be honored if the banks are shut down.

Any other thoughts?

I remember.

Thank you. I just didn't want to be the first one posting it and have the Fed boys looking at me too closely. I think this government is going to start stomping on anyone who reveals any information that might thwart their plans....I really do. I believe we are living in incredibly dangerous times. The BIG mistake people (especially conservatives) is thinking that a large portion of the population of the United States has a moral foundation. It doesn't exist. Therefore, there is a very SMALL contigent of people who have real convictions and moral values. So, any support for doing what is right is going to be minimal. Anyone trying to do the right thing is going to be crushed and quickly.

My plan is to basically get OUT of the paper money and in to tangible goods. Gold may be a decent hedge, but tools, ammunition, etc., etc. that people HAVE to have are going to be worth a lot more in trade than the paper money will be worth. We're probably going to see incredible hyperinflation in the next few years on an unprecedented level relative to this country's history (not counting the Southern Confederacy and their currency problems).

Regarding my link in #9, from the start, I’ve always been of the mind that our gov’t. was/is duping bonds off the books.
As to what’s gonna happen. I’m thinking a lot of violent civil unrest...for many different reasons and from many different quarters. Like you said, a large part of the population have no moral values or convictions. There are gonna be many different fans for the STH....and I believe it will.

Karl Deninger at Market Ticker thinks its prep for a huge out break of the swine flu.

I think he makes a pretty good case.

You wouldn't be swapping them for a local currency if it were a major international upheaval, like war. You'd be doing what China is doing and buying valuable commodities.

You exchange a common currency like the US dollar for a local currency when you think you're going to go in lock-down mode (that is, no travel, no in, no out, not even for trade). Epidemic is the usual suspect in such a case.

Maybe I should have read more closely. Was this article about embassies in foreign countries selling US dollars for local currency?

Unfortunately, you may be right. I urge everyone to do their own research on these bills that are being presented. Who benefits. Make a list of their names. Follow the money. Google them and watch for connections between the same people and the same institutions. The results don’t lie.

I believe we would have a chance if our elected conservative politicians were prepared for an attempted takeover by the opposition but, they don’t act like they have a clue and neither do their constituents. Draw your own conclusions and good luck.

I have personally been wrestling with the idea of a mass world currency devaluation in my mind for the past 6 or 7 months.

There is not telling what the world’s central bankers ponder in secret.

It would be a way to ease the world’s debts.
