Post Obama Cairo Speech Analysis

To me the speech was mixed bag. Frankly, President Obama was stuck in a very difficult spot with so many competing interests looking onto the speech that it would have simply been impossible for him to please everyone. Furthermore, he was talking about concepts that he would need the better part of a year to fully explain and yet condensed them into a speech just less than an hour. On the plus side, Obama kept the apology tour and American recriminations to a minimum. He recognized the long standing alliance with Israel, and he condemned the Middle East's tendency to use the Palestinian/Israeli crisis to mask their own shortcomings. On the negative, he still couldn't resist condemning GITMO and "torture". Furthermore, he condemned Israeli settlement expansion in the exact same paragraph with Hamas violence. As such, he implicitly drew a moral equivalence between the two. Obama also never recognized that Israel is a Jewish state. This is no small matter because a good portion of the Middle East would like to see Israel flooded with Arabs and Muslims.

“...Obama was stuck in a very difficult spot ...”

BULL!

Nobody made him go anywhere or say anything!

He could have stayed home and outlined his approach to making America and her allies stronger.....but then he clearly has NO INTEREST in THAT agenda!

Just as long as folks like you don’t then say that far left liberals always approached everything from the perspective that Bush is wrong.

That’s clearly how you see the world. No matter what happened you start with the premise that Obama is wrong. That isn’t necessarily so.

What he did was a legitimate part of foreign policy but he is dealing with very complicated issues. There is plenty to gain from a popular president addressing the Muslim world and if you can’t see that then that’s because you are blinded by your hate toward him.

Yep so he decided to please no one and he succeeded beyond expectations.

I thought for a moment you were responding to that poster in jest, but I see you are nothing more than an ignorant fool for you believe the nonsense you spew.

I don’t think I am ignorant, and a popular president addressing an Arab nation has plenty of potential and plenty of pitfalls. I also don’t believe that it is good thinking to start with the premise that Obama is wrong anymore than it is proper to start with the premise that Bush is wrong.

I don't start with the premise that Obama is wrong ...

... but I usually arrive there after carefully thinking about what he just did or said.

Hussein doesn’t even have to say anything and he is wrong! I hate and despise the little bastard. Can't wait for this nightmare to end.

ya, “delicate”....

“The Jewish people endured the Holocaust, but on the other hand.....”

That was pretty delicate.../sarc

How about acknowledging that the Pali’s are responsible for turning every opportunity for additional freedoms and trust into a bloody attack on Israel?!?!?!
