Remember this? Obama scolded corporate executives: "You can't get corporate jets. You can't go take a trip to Las Vegas, or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayers' dime."
But apparently it's none of our business how much it cost for Obama to move a massive military and security operation to New York for an evening so he could take his wife Michelle out to dinner and a show last Saturday. After bumbling along in his usual style, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs on Monday refused to answer the question of cost (video)and no one in the "news" media thought enough about it to press the point.
So much for Obama's promise to bring transparency and openness to government.
Joseph Curl, writing at the Washington Times reminds us that even a short trip by the President means a big carbon footprint and a big bill to the taxpayer. The trip involved:

“Transparency” was a nifty buzzword during the campaign.
Like all the others uttered by this POS, totally devoid of any meaning.
Press Corp to Obama White House: Oh, OK. Was that a designer dress beautiful Michelle was wearing so elegantly? Wow, look at the shiny thing!
bttt
And his “followers” in the press and those who voted for him could not care less.
If he had buisness in new york and stayed there the weekend this would be less offensive.
These people who protect the president are workinig on-call 24/7 anyway, so the cost is there whether he stays home or not.
Well, then, it's OK for his critics to pull any number out of the air and claim that's what it cost the taxpayer. When screams of "It's a LIE!" are made, remind the screamee that Obama decided to hide the costs, so unless he comes clean, the figure is a Best Estimate.
Freedom of Information Act anyone?
1) Must be able to read from a teleprompter.
2) Must be willing to fly around the world and talk (see item #1)
3) Experience in spending other peoples $$$ is highly desirable.
4) Ability to strike a pose for the camera is a plus.
I pick the cost at $500K. They wont release the numbers, my number is as good as anyones.
Don’t forget the huge cost to the NYC police department and the fact that NYC has their own huge budget problem.
My immediate thought when I heard this ... okay, so he made her a deal, they would have a swingin' time in New York after the election -- they had to do it this way? Special flight(s), the whole she-bang? Am I to believe that sometime in the next four years, 0bama is never going to make a trip to NY for any reason whatever, no chance to have the dinner/show during it??
No one would have had anything negative to say, rather, it would have been even better PR for them had they been more reasonable and less "I do because I can" elitists.
You mean someone in the press actually ASKED that question?!?!?! No way!
In these economic times, the cost would have been equal some 1,000 workers’ annual income.
Just like their first date....It wasn't the Museum meet "Date"....It was the show they went to see that night.
To be fair, if President Bush (either one) had done the same with the missus, I would not have complained. So I won’t complain about Obama on this matter.
Now on about a hundred other things....
that’s probably not an unreasonable estimate.
