While probably not at the very top of their lists, whether or not a president is Israel-friendly is almost guaranteed to be part of a political discussion among Jewish Americans. From where I stand, in November 2008, 78% of America’s Jews did what Thomas Franks accuses conservatives of doing in his book “What’s the Matter with Kansas?”, namely, they voted against their own best interest.

How do I know? Well, just ask the Israelis:

31% of Israelis call Obama pro-Israel May. 18, 2009 Gil Hoffman , THE JERUSALEM POST

Only 31 percent of Israelis consider the views of American president Barack Obama's administration pro-Israel, according to a Smith Research poll released Sunday, on the eve of the meeting between Obama and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu at the White House. [...]

Obama's numbers contrast sharply with those of his predecessor, George W. Bush, whose administration, according to the poll, was considered pro-Israel by 88% of the respondents. Seven percent said Bush was neutral and just 2% labeled him pro-Palestinian. […]

The Jewish vote was brought in by one of their own, namely Rahm Immanuel, the power behind the throne or behind obozo. Rahm is an Orthodox Jew who trained in whatever capacity with the IDF. Israel has a voice through rahmbo who struts his power whenever he can. With rahmbo calling the shots behind the scenes, Israel doesn’t have a problem with the obozo admin.

1. Rham was not IDF. He was a civilian volunteer who painted rust preventative on truck brakes.

2. Rahm is not an “orthodox Jew” or at least not in the way you probably think. He attends an MODERN orthodox Jewish “shul.” Modern orthodox come in many flavors. His, for example, permitted Rahm to marry a non-Jewish woman who “converted” to Judaism shortly before their marriage -— a red flag to many who take their Judaism more seriously.

3. His mother was a liberal radical in Chicago, deeply imbedded with unions.

4. His father appears to have been a legitimate zionist, and very brave. The apple did not fall close to the tree here.
