Utah Governor Huntsman Becomes Obama's Ambassador to China

Utah's (and my) RINO Governor accepted the nomination to serve as ambassador to China, under President Obama. This seems to put to rest his alleged bid at the 2012 Presidency. The only question is, why? From Politico:

The move is freighted with political intrigue. Huntsman, who speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese, quickly emerged after November as one of the leading moderate GOP voices…

Huntsman, who met with Obama’s transition team to discuss energy policy, was in Washington on Friday night, ahead of a planned Saturday announcement by the White House, The Salt Lake Tribune reported. Several Utah news organizations said the governor will resign and accept the appointment.

Huntsman, 49, served a Mormon mission in Taiwan. The governor and his wife, Mary Kaye, adopted a daughter, Gracie Mei, from China in 1999. In 2006, he led a trade mission to China “because of their prominence on the world stage and the way in which they are growing so rapidly,” he told the Deseret Morning News of Salt Lake City.

Why did he accept this role? It virtually guarantees he can't run for president in 2012 (which I'm fine with, the last thing we need is another freaking moderate). Did he never plan on running? Did Obama really see him as a threat, like he claimed, and wanted to get him out of the way?

While no republican presidential candidate yet makes Obama’s team “shake in {their} shoes…,” President Obama’s campaign manager, David Plouffe, now says Governor Jon Huntsman makes him, a “wee bit queasy…I think he’s really out there speaking a lot of truth about the direction of the party

Does he plan on running in 2016, and viewed this as a chance to pad his resume and national and international standing? Could he just not neglect what he viewed as his patriotic duty? Is there something I'm missing? I don't know, it is really quite perplexing.

As a Utahan, I very much appreciated all he has done for the state financially. And, to his credit, he hasn't enacted any morally moderate legislation (except for perhaps a loosening of state liquor laws, though that was primarily done by the state legislators). Still, I am happy to see him go, with the prospect that he can be replaced by a truly conservative governor. And, I am truly glad he won't be running in 2012. He would be leaps and bounds better than Obama, to be sure, but he still wouldn't be a conservative, which is what this country sorely needs.

It was postulated on the Grandy and Andy show (DC AM talk radio) that Huntsman is positioning himself for a 2016 run and being ambassador to China is one way to get foreign policy street cred.

Hatch probably worked out a deal with Obama to get Huntsman appointed in return for Hatch supporting Obamas SCOTUS nominee and perhaps amnesty.

Have you noticed the MSN always promote the “moderate” part of the Republican party but....golly gee whiz....never the conservative part? Wonder why? They think they will pick us a loser for the next election, like they did a la’ McCain or Dole! Sure do hope not. We would have done better running Clem Kididdlehopper than McLoser McCain!

How come Utah prodcues so many RINOs? I thought it was a conservative state?

Yet an antiquated RINO windbag like Hatch continues to get re-elected there.

It’s the reddest state in the country, and the people are very, very conservative. So it is a good question. I’m not sure why they produce so many RINOs. But, they did elect Jason Chaffetz, he is a great conservative.

Hatch is helping his buddy Huntsman. And Hatch is bought and paid for by corporate interests who want such things as amnesty and universal health care.

Obama obviously feels that removing this guy gives Democrats a shot at the governor’s mansion, and at appointing a Dem to the Senate once he makes Hatch his Ambassador to Lichtenstein...
